Yeah I just saw it too.Originally posted by SBS9889U:Then those from NEL planning to transfer to NSL will be the one losing the most
This news is just being reported in ch8 10pm news
You mean NEL (North East Line)? There's no such line as South East Line.Originally posted by ad3285:Every evening i take the MRT from City hall to Dhoby Ghaut to change to SEL.
Yesterday when i reach City hall MRT at around 6:10pm, SMRT made an announcement that the train service will be delayed by 5mins.
After 5mins, another announcement is made that the train service will be delayed by another 15mins.
I knew it wasn't going to be a simple technical fault
So i walk over and took the west bound line to Outram park and change to my SEL. Reached home at around 7:30pm.
I couldn't imagine if i waited for the train service to resume -.-
Yup, I thought it used to be part of Eastern Region Line (now known as Downturn Line Stage 3). When DTL was announced, LTA never mentioned abt extending from Chai Chee to Marine Parada via East Coast.Originally posted by ^tamago^:Sometimes I really do wish for a line running through Marine Parade and East Coast.
Don't know. LTA planning really is own time own target.Originally posted by Novawin™:Yup, I thought it used to be part of Eastern Region Line (now known as Downturn Line Stage 3). When DTL was announced, LTA never mentioned abt extending from Chai Chee to Marine Parada via East Coast.
Perhaps Downturn Line Stage 4 could be expected at later? Maybe it will extend from EXPO to Marine Parade?
LOL I see the way some STOMPers reply... really boh nao one.Originally posted by SMRT Buses:
I feel that your point is actually quite valid. But hang on...Originally posted by DMC05:I feel that the author's point is actually valid. Its not a matter of being patient. And he's not like others who complain about there being a disruption which should not happen in the first place because we're paying higher fares now than we used to.
According to the author, the delay started at around 6pm (announcements made at 6.15pm after an initial delay of 15 minutes). If SMRT had activated the shuttle bus system, I'm sure that by 7pm the buses would have been able to be in town for the service. But when he approached the staff, they were not able to say if there would even be a shuttle service nor when the trains would resume service. If the shuttle bus service were not activated, and there were no updates on when service would resume, staff could direct passengers to a NEL station and recommend that they take a bus back from there. Or at least to offer some degree of help rather than to be entirely clueless.
Sure, NEL may fall under SBS Transit. But if they thought that they could still obtain fares from people taking transport under the SMRT group, I have no idea what kind of logic that would be. The least would be to inform the passenger how to get to Newton station by bus.

DonÂ’t leave passengers stranded
When MRT services are disrupted, provide alternative transport quickly
Letter from CHUA KIM CHOO
But in the midst of Thursday eveningÂ’s chaos, there was an MRT officer at Raffles Place station telling commuters where to get their refunds and the way out of the MRT station!

Common sense tells us that if we read the newspapers, we would know that for every breakdown in the MRT system, shuttle bus services would be provided. Unless SMRT did mention that there would be no shuttle services provided, WHICH SEEMED HIGHLY IMPOSSIBLE, you can always get your refund, get out of the station, board a public bus or cab, or wait for the shuttle services. Shuttle services would definitely be provided based on the peak hour crowds volume... and hello? The fault occured at the CBD area. Would SMRT be so dumb to not send buses down? (Refer to my post somewhere above to see why buses took so long.)Originally posted by Medicated Oil:I was at the MRT when it brokedown.
I have to agreed with the author.
The train stopped at Newton MRT station.
No instructions was broadcast to passengers that shuttle bus service is provided.
The broadcast system only informed the passengers that the train service to Marina Bay will be delayed for 1 hours.
The passengers were lost on what to do next.
The situation was in a mess.
For a public transport system that have sufficient past experiences of breakdown, this is simply unacceptable.
i agree with you to a certain extent. ur viewpoint seems bit biased towards SMRT. u are correct, but can u put urself in the shoes of the people there? yes, it's not all just SMRT's fault. but people were frustrated that there was a lack of co-ordination, which made people confused & angry. it is human nature to get angry when something goes wrong, and to find something/someone to blame. and probably 99% of Sg's population is not bus/ train enthusiast or works for SMRT, so they would not know abt AMDEP and how far it is from City Hall stn and everything else. so naturally they would not empathise with SMRT.Originally posted by Oceane:Common sense tells us that if we read the newspapers, we would know that for every breakdown in the MRT system, shuttle bus services would be provided. Don't always blame train operators for technical fault. It has already been hard for them to try to settle things down in the midst of the peak hour crowd, and yet some people refuse to give up and add more salt to the wound.
