Can't one take photos in MRT stations?
WHEN did taking photos in MRT stations become a crime?
I was at the Boon Lay Station recently to photograph the Jurong West housing estate when a member of the MRT staff stopped me and demanded my identity card. Naturally, I baulked at his request. He then attempted to detain me at the control station and wanted to call the police to arrest me.
As a freelance photojournalist, I have taken pictures all over Singapore, including in a few MRT stations, the ICA Building, the Changi Expo, Changi Airport and, more recently, street scenes during our National Day celebrations. I have not been stopped by anyone, and it was done in full view of security personnel and the police.
If there are newly imposed restrictions, it is necessary that the public be informed.

Really got such rule meh ? LAst time when I took MRT, I used to take picture of my children leh ... wah lau .. I had committed a crime ... ..!

hmm... maybe one day they'll decide to ban camera phones on MRT, just like in army camps...

Do u look like terrorist or tom cruise? Anyway, they will still detain u.. coz they free and nothing to do at MRT station!!!

I'm not so sure though. I know there are certain restrictions about what kind of photos you could take... and as long as you ask, they are OK with it...
But even if don't ask should have no problems... -
There is no "No Photo Taking" sign around

you can neither take pictures at mrt interchanges nor bus interchanges...
sbs transit & smrt also said you can't take pictures of buses along roadside for security reason, so where else can you take pictures???? -

THERE is a rule. Photography is not allowed from MRT stations and Bus Terminals. Unless you want to become a paparazi. Besides that. spotted deregistered MK-IIs at BBDEP and if you want to be Private Investigator, you can try to take picture But you will be acting like a terrorist if you take pics in MRT Stations as if you want to bomb the MRT Station.

i think, its a rule, but not the law. challenge his authority next time, and we'll see how far the mrt staff can go.

It is a rule and i can tell you that pple have been detained for interrogation before.
You might get arrested. -
Heard about it before and many cases happened before too. But duno why SBST and SMRT cant be bothered to inform the public that they are not allowed to do so...

SBST replied to my feedback recently and confirmed there's isn't any rule to prevent photo-taking of buses along the public roads. I've ever walked up and asked a couple of policemen patrolling along the streets to ask whether its an offence to photograph buses along public roads. But really stupid - we can enter SMRT Bishan depot during this year's Open House to photograph the "sensitive things" (incl train interior, machines), and TIB1202K and its bus interior! and yet not allowed at bus Int/Ter/MRT Stn. don't tell me photographs from train depots are lesss sensitive?
I believe the hypothesis that phototaking of buses are a threat to security are all rubbish! pax can tow along their luggagues/baggages into train stations, crowded platforms and trains. What happens if inside the bag got bomb? Is such sceneraios much much more dangerous than phototaking? do you think terrorists need to photograph first before carrying a bag with bomb to enter the train station or bus? -

I think that guy who want to detain you is just too free.
Maybe he want to get the "medal of good citizen".
I dont think most people will be bother about you taking pictures at MRT/Bus -
It is all Muslim terrorists faults. That y we have so many new regulations to prevent terrorism.

we nearly got into alot of trouble with JI, no warning that we were under threat somemore...
its a good thing that the mrt staff are alert, i'd thought we'd be paying their salary for nothing -
