currently, NE2 is a provisional alphanumeric code for a future station which has not been built yet. The station, if built, would probably be around the Bukit Purmei/ Tanjong Pagar area. Reasons cited for not building the station yet include low passenger demand, but another reason is that there may be disputes if the station is built around the Tanjong Pagar KTM Station area, as Malaysia claims the area to be its land. There are speculations that the station will be called Kampong Bahru.

interesting. i know there a few other stations on the mrt line that are 'missing'. got a number reserved for them too.
Eg: NS12, NS6

NS6 was supposed to be part of the Woodlands MRT extension in the initial plan. The station was due to be located in the Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate. However, it just did not make sense to have an MRT station in the middle of an industrial estate, and the plan for the station was scrapped. However, the alphanumeric code has been left empty as there may be 'future developments' to 'warrant cause for building and operating the station'.
NS12 was due to be built in between Yishun & Sembawang stations, where a new housing estate Simpang was proposed. However, due to a change in plan, the Simpang HDB estate project was indefinitely shelved. NS12 is a provisional station which will be built if URA sees the need to redevelop a completely new housing estate there, though there are currently no plans to do so, at least not in the near future. -
Well, agreed. But, if it's going to be built like that. IT will be simmilar to Dover station layout. And trains will have to go at depot area speed as well. But, for the Marina Cove station (which was rumoured around) I think we have to wait in order to find out. But I think will be built when the government got the downtown area project completed in 2040! 2040? I'm 47 by then.

When u say Marina Cove, r u talking abt NS 28 (the old would-be M2)? The station was in the initial MRT plans. in a 190-85 (can't rmb the exact yr) map of the then-future MRT system, there was an M2 station after Marina bay, called marina view, serving the Superbowl area. however, this plan was shelved as well, though the book in which i found the map did not give the reason.Originally posted by tintinspartan:Well, agreed.
