Youth charged with damaging LRT track
Silicon sealant thrown onto track from 11th floor of a blockBy Elena Chong, Court Correspondent
A TEEN has been charged with thrice throwing tubes of silicone sealant onto the Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit (LRT) railway track, causing damage totalling $4,500. Ong Wen Hui, 17, is alleged to have committed the first act of mischief from the 11th floor of Block 128, Pending Road in mid-May. His alleged deed caused an eight-minute disruption to the LRT service, said SMRT, and damage to the tune of $3,450.
Ong, first produced in court last month, allegedly went on to commit the deed two more times - in the last week of last month and the first week of this month. There was no break to the LRT service these last two times, but the damage caused came to $400 and $650 respectively. If convicted, Ong could be jailed for up to two years or fined, or both, on each charge. Now out on $5,000 bail, he will be represented by Mr Ong Peng Boon. A pre-trial conference will be held on June 28.
