Man's feet caught in platform gap

SINGAPORE: A man got his feet caught in the platform gap at Tampines MRT Station but was pulled to safety by a member of the public.
This incident happened around 11am on Monday.
According to SMRT, the passenger hit his head against the train body, which caused him to fall. As a result, his feet were caught in the platform gap.
Civil defence officials said the man is believed to be in his 50s.
He suffered injuries to his left ankle and head, and was rushed to Changi General Hospital in a semi-conscious state.
Viewers who called our hotline said they saw blood and bandages on the platform floor.
Westbound train services were disrupted for about eight minutes.
Police investigations are underway. -

its extremely embarassing that such incidents do exists, prob typical only in Singapore i believe. and now still need to teach people how to use escalators! its really shameful, esp when these accidents even happen on adults; who are supposed to teach their kids the proper behaviour but look at them???
The gaps in Singapore's MRT system are considered very narrow, level and safe to use as compared to many rail systems worldwide. Even for Melbourne(Australia), the platform gaps for Suburban train system are much wider and at different levels, esp on curved train platforms. Same goes its the regional train system. Then, I've never heard of peoples' legs got trapped between gaps! and what abt train systems in 3rd world countries? overcrowding, vehicles without doors and even pax climbing onto the trains and buses roof top for travel! and worse still, the roads over there are far more rocky and uneven! then, dont we see many people falling off the bus roof while travelling, etc etc?? -

There some always announcement to remind passengers like "Give Way to Alighting Passengers b4 boarding" , "Please move towards the centre of the car"), but all passengers are like deaf and blind and always blocks the doors. It is really irritating. Why they so like to stand near the doors?! Kiasu or Kiasi or Kia-late? -

HK is considering installing PSDs in even above ground stations, in a latest press release, with air conditioning, though it said the time frame to build it as well as the cost will be high because of the need to aircon the platforms as well. -
