Neither the future looks good as new MRT lines takes time to complete and operate
In fact, SMRT earned $160m alone from MRT biz back in 1996. Now is $132m even with Buses and Taxis
Any accquisation offer by ComfortDelgro it noted, would be the better way out for SMRT as it also gives them a chance to expand overseas.

i think this is a good lesson for those who support having many bus operators instead of one big operator in Singapore.
By having many bus operators, each of them will get a much smaller slice of the "cake" and who is going to operate the non-profitable routes? will their smaller profits able to cover for unprofitable routes? and smaller bus operators got no bargaining power when come to purchase new buses, spares, maintenance, etc. and they cant even afford to assemble their own buses like ComfortDelgro as its not economical. and can smaller operators afford to buy better buses with zero-step, WAB, maintain their buses properly, equip with EZ-Link system, set up proper dept to handle commuter queries and complaints, train their new drivers professionally before being put on the roads, etc etc?
and the overhead costs per bus operator remains high, can they all afford to keep bus fares to a minimal? We commuters may end up paying more but with lousier service instead!
