The 30 minute waiting time is for KTM Komuter off-peak and that's the minimum. Peak hours is 15 minutes with perpetually late trains. The plasma screens are on KL Monorail and BTS Skytrain in Bangkok. The 3-car trains are found in many places. Shan't say where are they. If you can't even wait for 8 minutes, please buy a car. Trying out other countries public transport made me appreciate even our non-aircon buses and Nissans.

Me: The driver has a timetable precise in seconds. He can't wait.
Ah-soh: I don't care. (This got me realy pissed off liao.)
Me: Other countries have trains that come every 30 minutes and have plasma screens that show strictly advertisements.
Ah-soh: Other countries is other countries. Singapore cannot.
Me: And their trains only has 3 cars at most.
Ah-soh: Anyway, I still think the driver must wait for us.
Me: There's no driver. SMRT is driverless.
Ah-soh: Yes there is. I can prove it.
Me: COME ON! (At this time, I heard some girls giggling behind me. How could I let that slip out?!)
Me (in my mind): toot.
She knew she lost. She showed it. Ah but anyway, since her friend got embarassed over the 7 min thing, I help him pay back. Then the train arrives:
Ah-soh: I think I still should complain.
Friend: Nevermind LEH (dun speak Singlish if you don't know how to, bro.)
Ah-soh: The East-North Line has soooo much better frequency.
I wanted to say: For toot's sake, it's called the North-East Line and I waited 8 minutes at Kovan. Anyway, you complain to SMRT they won't reply one. (I didn't talk so this was what was in my mind.)
Anyway, she boarded the train, alive and kicking. Then I had a flashback. This bloddy Ah-soh looks like the one I saw on the Sentosa Bus and stood at the door, 1 hand on the handrail and 1 on the seat, thus creating a human barrier, cannot move back. I scolded her. I don't care if I'm much smaller, I even scold parents in my primary school.
Whee... Going to KL on Sunday... Go by bus, come back by TRAIN.

yea noticed it....
anyway kinda got me thinking... is there a chance of the NS-EW expanding such that SMRT buys a batch of 4th gen trains? and maybe expand the peak hour zone beyond yishun on the NS line? -

You can't really blame the train operators for increased waiting times... sometimes it is due to mechanical fault that caused the waiting time to increase, others is due to overcrowding. During off-peak, train timings are inaccurate, therefore the plasma screens that show the amount of waiting time left to next train is actually not true. For example, a 8-minute show on the plasma screen may actually be 6 mins, and a 5 minute-show on the plasma screen could be 9 mins. They get the information on next train timings based on timetables, and tele-communications. However during peak hours, there will be a certain delay of X minutes in between Train A and Train B, so therefore the station manager will show the timings on the plasma screen based on the delays, timetables and telecommunication. Now you know why peak hour timings are more accurate. Also, during the early mornings, the first 7-8 trains have very inaccurate timings. This is due to the time that they were sent out of depot for service.

Seriously, complain when cannot get a seat, and complain AGAIN for having too many seats? That empty train could have just gotten out of Tanah Merah Depot, and since it was in the late afternoon, it could be preparing for the 5.00pm peak hour. Non-sensical teenager. -

that time i waited at clark quey mrt...display showed 9 minutes...but actual time was nearly 11-13 minutes
