  SMRT launches Silver Tribute Fund to help lonely and needy elders
  
  SINGAPORE: Public transport company SMRT is going the extra mile to help the elderly in Singapore.
  
  Some 500 SMRT senior management, staff and elders from Geylang East Home for the Aged and Bright Hill Evergreen Home took to the streets to collect donations for the needy elderly.
  
  And it was a sea of red outside the Orchard MRT Station.
  
  Led by SMRT President and CEO Saw Phaik Hwa, the donation march marks the launch of the SMRT Silver Tribute Fund.
  
  The Fund aims to raise money for the abandoned, lonely seniors in need of care.
  
  Money raised will be channelled to eight beneficiaries to fund programmes that help the elderly lead more meaningful and dignified lives. - CNA/so

  Hahaha... If they really care abt the needy, they should not raise the fares in the first place. Now, they are trying to show ppl that they are the "good" guys.

  why the must collect fund from the public?? cannot from company profit?? anyway.. all the man hours wasted for the donation act will cost money too....and end of the day ... it's the money from public that is helping the old ppl... why not just waive the fares of citizen over 60 yrs old?
  
  ..... very simple e.g.... a bus with 10 ppl will still run whether they include 1 or 2 old ppl over 60yrs old.. so.. it will be the same cost .. no additional cost carrying these old ppl anyway....

  cause the donations goes like this....
  
  for every $1, only 0.10 is used to assist the elderly...

  Our SMRT is too poor to help the poor so they have to rely on donations from the public.

  They should say if public donate $1 they donate $1 then fair mah, if not like that abit unfair leh.

  cause if they allow that to happen, though there is no additional cost, they lose the chance of carrying 2 passengers. thus less profit.
