speed of MRTs

do you think that there's a room of improvement of the speed of MRT trains in singapore? like let's say the travelling distance between boon lay MRT and pasir ris MRT stations can be reduced to 40-45 minutes instead of the current 58 minutes?

station-to-station timing is fixed in multiple of minutes (60 secs). the usual timing is 2 minutes though.
during peak hours, the trains go faster but the dwell at stations longer.
hence, the only way to shorten it is to have less stations. (in fact, opening of dover station in 2001 added one minute travel time to the tally). but u cant really do tat on our current track since there are no tracks for overtaking. u're limited by the train in front.
so this is not possible at all.

I think the main disability of the trains are that they are using DC power, as AC trains like those on NEL accelerate much faster.
DC trains have low acceleration, high speed. Once VVVF devices are installed, if ever, the trains can achieve higher aceleration with AC power.
Speed one thing, the frequency another one. More frequency, but trains have no where to go. There are no sidings in Pasir Ris, or Boon Lay. We have enough trainsets, not enough brains. -
Last time I saw the MRT train being parked at the very end of the line of boon lay mrt station.

If you know economics, you will know that peak hours will still be packed regardless of frequency. -

If SMRT Dint have NRs, it would be a better idea if they had Night Trains that has frequency of like 20 - 30 mins on weekends then maybe can complete BNL - PSR is 40 mins or less and also skipping quiet stops at night like Dover.

dont forget that MRT/LRT lines are closed at night for nightly mainteanance!
for this reason (and to allow commuters to return home easily) NR/NiteOwls are created. -

the determining of speed limit for track sectors is not based on above or underground, but how close u are to the next train and if ure behind schedule or not. -
