Woman Falls OnTo MRT Tracks, Man Held.
The Straits Times, K.C. VIJAYAN (15.09.2006).
A WOMAN escaped with minor injuries yesterday after being allegedly pushed off a platform and onto the tracks at Clementi MRT station.
Shouting as she fell, the woman quickly pulled herself up and managed to reach the far side just as a train pulled into the station at 7pm. The alarm was raised and SMRT staff helped her back onto the platform.
Moments before the incident, a commuter overheard the 26-year-old woman telling a male companion in Mandarin: "Don't push me."
Another commuter standing nearby chased the suspect as he began to move away from the scene. Others rushed to help and held down the suspect, also 26, until police arrived.
He was arrested, and investigations are under way, said police spokesman Mohd Razif. Train services were disrupted for about 10 minutes, said an SMRT spokesman.
The woman, believed to be in shock, was taken to the National University Hospital. She suffered bruises to her left forearm and complained of numbness in her right leg.
Commuter Geraldine Ong, 28, who was waiting for the same train as the couple, said: 'I was horrified when I saw her on the tracks. "The couple may have been fooling around, but this is very dangerous."

If I see a train approaching, I believe going down to the tracks to help a complete stranger is the last thing on my mind.Originally posted by VODKA KE0601:Yeah sure..., go ahead... AiYah..., people nowadays... So self-centric minded... Wonder how many actually thought of jumping down the tracks and helped her, rather than snapping photos away...
Overseas..., in countries like Japan... Ain't common for people to sacrifice their lives to pushed some suicidal or drunken person away from a train pulling-in, and get killed in the process...
