if u r in charge of the mrt lines of sg... and u are supposed to close down 3 of the operating stations to cut cost... which 3 will u cut?

In my answers, I quoted Marina Bay, Expo and Potong Pasir...
2 prediction correct...but my facilitator said it's up to on how we explain and convice the class during presentation....well, eventually, Potong Pasir, my classmates feel that it is useless too...due to my valid points, reasons and evidences!
This topic will surely have many ppl rebutting and suggesting their ideas and thoughts.... i encountered this in class already.... -

I would say these: PTB, Expo, Marina Bay
Haven't incl CCL stn yet -
I will be speaking from a passenger/tourist's point of view
Marina Bay should not be closed, it should be changed to operate only on special days.
Expo should be closed as it is not useful, there are better bus connections there and very little passengers take train to expo.
Chinese Garden--- as there is 335 from Jurong East, 180 from Boon Lay and there is Lakeside/Jurong East station very nearby.
Changi Airport ---- Little passengers/tourist, people prefer to take bus and taxis from CGA as there will be sight seeing unlinke the underground tunnels of the CGL. -
IMO, newton should not be closed as there are students that take NSL from Newton, especially for the many schools in Bukit Timah.Originally posted by muziq bus:I had this question for my daily project too!!

i choose kranji, marina bay and expo
kranji - only alot of people when there are races... other days nothing
marina bay - obvious reasons
expo - only weekends when got important exhibitions then got crowd... -

1) Clarke Quay. Too close to Chinatown Station.
2) Chinese Garden. Hardly anyone goes to Chinese Garden, and not many people get off either to change to buses or vice versa.
3) Fareer Park. I dont know why such a station is needed, given that Little India and Boon Keng can already handle the strectch of Serangoon Road quite well. -

Potong Pasir should not be closed. firstly, if that happens, then u have 2 consecutive stations closed, will much more inconvenient.
potong pasir station is also near the PIE, pple could use that station as a point to transfer to many buses there(some may need more walking), e.g. 966, 985, 23 etc which go the express route, and vice versa. also it is near the macpherson rd/bendemeer road/serangoon rd/upp serangn rd junction, and for such a busy junction, many buses from diff directions will meet close together,so that people could make use of potong pasir station after transferring from buses or vice versa.
and from what i know there are pple who live near B04 sgoon ave 2 do take 133 to potong pasir station to take mrt because there is still no direct to serangoon station, if potong pasir is closed then they have to be force to walk to MRT or take bus along boundary road like 22,53,853 but it will more walking than 133.
and since woodleigh station is already closed if u close potong pasir those residents there i cant imagine what their reaction, plus those living near woodleigh will get more frustrate.
however, it does seem that potong pasir station is not as busy as some others like serangoon. perhaps i is there at the time when theres not much pple.
clarke quay personally i do not think it should be closed. pple from funan centre/treasury who live along NEL could use that station to take a direct train instead of going to city hall and take one stop then transfer, it can be quite inconvenient compared to a direct train. the distance from funan to clarke quay is still walkable, but funan to chinatown would be a little too far.
anyways it is just a 'if' topic, i dont think they will closed anymore after closing buangkok and woodleigh. -

I mean no entry/exit to/from the station. Station is used for transferring of trains only (ie. Platforms in use while the other parts of the station closed). Dover cannot close, SP students use it. i suppose it is built because SP is there.
also i really wish they can make a bus service which go nus stop at Dover station, so that it could be more utilised. but looks like they are not going to do that. they should make a 96B stop at Dover and not Clementi, for it is more likely pple will go and take east bound train at Clementi stations so why not stop at Dover. stop at dover also faster. -

dover should not be close... if i am not wrong the concept 21 plan got try to link all tertiary education places thru mrt line.... like dover, yck, bras basah.... future BTL for NP, Jurong Region for NTU, Eastern Region for TP.... if I am not wrong, there are 2 very future lines for RP at woodlands and NUS.....correct me if i am wrong....Originally posted by CAIX:Stations that I think it needed to be close...

Maybe Dover only open during the school term while the other times, the station can close to cut operating costs. (Like what i have suggested for Marina Bay.)
However, the suggestion for Marina Bay is easier to carry out as the SMRT personell can ask all passengers to clear at Raffles Place while the train driver continues on to Marina Bay or change at Raffles Place.
The Dover one may be harder to carry out as the public needed more education on when the station closes as there are much more passengers going to/from Dover than Marina Bay. -
