As long as it can pay me to put food on the tableOriginally posted by dragg:what makes you think i am picky?
will you go for a career switch from industrial sales to a waiter?
I am trying to sound nice only mah...paisehOriginally posted by gypises:I beg to differ, job market is NOT improving...
Understand your frustrations and anger...met alot of people around your age that face the same problems. They just want to "get rid" of you by offering you the jobs that matches most people. In that way, their in-tray will not be so high.Originally posted by dragg:i agree that having a job is better than none.
like i posted earlier is waiter the best they can come up with considering the kind of experience i have? i can definitely get a job back in sales, just at a much lower salary.
the least they could have done is come up with a job related to my experience. not a waiter!!!
i am indeed skeptical that they are doing it just to fill up the many vacancies available in F & B industry.
that is what pissed my off.
i am not a grad.Originally posted by alexkusu:They thought u may be desparate enough for any job. It could be a testing job before assigning you to other duties. The job market now is saturated with fresh grads looking for jobs..sometimes its better to swallow you pride and chug along. A job now is better than nothing right?
again i agree, if i have financial concerns i might consider.Originally posted by ToffeeClub1929:As long as it can pay me to put food on the table
I would do it...
if they can hire a fresh grad with specialised training, etc at lower cost..why wouldnt they?Originally posted by dragg:i am not a grad.
my kind of job does not require university qualification, thus fresh grads dont compete for jobs with me.
.
maybe...Originally posted by alexkusu:if they can hire a fresh grad with specialised training, etc at lower cost..why wouldnt they?
it takes two hands to clap. even if the employer is willing do you think a young grad is so desperate as to take up an unrelated position for a pittance?Originally posted by ToffeeClub1929:Don't want to sound cruel, but the job market can be quite jialat in certain industries. But there is a saying.."if got hands and legs, no need to be scared of unemployment in Singapore".
Honestly, if I am a boss or a HR director, I would not mind hiring fresh graduates whose studies can be totally unrelated to the position.
i think these days in this market, grads are force to realise they may not hv the option to choose.....i think they are many who are willing to go for things not as wat they have studied....hv to be realistic rite....at least grab the $$, fill the tummy first....can always continue to search for something they wanted while they work....Originally posted by dragg:it takes two hands to clap. even if the employer is willing do you think a young grad is so desperate as to take up an unrelated position for a pittance?
that is exactly what i have in mind. i wont and cant be sitting at home forever. i am still financially sustainable, as you put it. i will hold on and take my chances for the time being.Originally posted by a_splash:i think these days in this market, grads are force to realise they may not hv the option to choose.....i think they are many who are willing to go for things not as wat they have studied....hv to be realistic rite....at least grab the $$, fill the tummy first....can always continue to search for something they wanted while they work....
degrees now no longer equals good job and good life fairy tales liao
but of course if financially feasible, anyone can continue to wait till they get the job they want....
when my hubby was out of job for a second round long period of being jobless(sales holding degree and MBA) (lost his job to high politics at work, was sabotaged, anyway the fellow who did also din have long life at the workplaceevil begets evil)
he was willing to take up the post of cleaner offered by the NTUC with plan maybe if feasible to set up cleaning biz....he also took up insurance course, taxi license, and he has class five lessons, was even thinking of taking up cooking class, cos friends were thinking of taking up a stalljust in case lah in case he need them to bring the bread home....some may think he has not fix direction of what he want to do, and that is no good but i guess he is just making plans for the worst lah....cos he don't seems to be very lucky at work.....always got 'siao ren'...
, maybe should tell him to go to the temple to 'da siao ren'
its really diff to tell when u should give in to the mkt forces or should u persistently keep to your reasoning....i would say there is really no rite or wrong decision made....as long as u can sustain......
Hmmm...since you are financially sustainable, have you considered being a full-time investor?Originally posted by dragg:that is exactly what i have in mind. i wont and cant be sitting at home forever. i am still financially sustainable, as you put it. i will hold on and take my chances for the time being.
well if you are still financially sustainable, take it that u are taking a break from the long work life...temp retirement...and indulge in some interest lor...Originally posted by dragg:that is exactly what i have in mind. i wont and cant be sitting at home forever. i am still financially sustainable, as you put it. i will hold on and take my chances for the time being.
