I wld kind of disagree with this, because 42.5% of Singaporeans in Singapore which makes up about 2 million of our citizens are Buddhist, and furthermore Buddhism is still growing and therefore more Buddhist communities to help out the spread of Buddhism would actually help and accelerate the growth of Buddhism in Singapore.Originally posted by bohiruci:I feel that we should address this problem in our Buddhist community
we are having too many Buddhist organisation in singapore ,canvassing for larger and bigger space in already property rocket-high prices singapore
the teachings of Buddha is only to choose the liberation out of suffering
Why is it that so many tradition with different variation in singapore ?
The problem is getting towards what i feel
"too many monks , too few porridge " issue
If we do not address the situation , We will all face the shortage of Buddhist youth to carry on the tradition and end up like Hongkong Buddhist community
BTW i dun understand how come this issue is related to 'facing shortage of youth'?Originally posted by bohiruci:If we do not address the situation , We will all face the shortage of Buddhist youth to carry on the tradition and end up like Hongkong Buddhist community
After the phasing out of Religious Knowledge ,our society is progressin towards a materialistic cultureOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:BTW i dun understand how come this issue is related to 'facing shortage of youth'?
Yes I agree with you that training the next generation is very important for the Buddhist community, and that is what my Buddhist organisation has also found and is trying to do.. (we also are making cell grps now to invite the young)Originally posted by syncopation_music:After the phasing out of Religious Knowledge ,our society is progressin towards a materialistic culture
If we as Buddhist community ,do not start to tailor program to suit the young , eventually our Buddhist activities would be seen as old ppl playing games and nothing more than devotional and too "holy " issue
What does the youth wants ?
A youth group to share experience , academic problems , family quarrels
outpour of sorrow from relationship , a shoulder to cry on , a place to learn ,to explore , to outreach , to gather financial planning skills , personal surving skills in life , a home away from home
It would be sad if we one day does not meet any of this requirement ?
note of cuation is what type of organisations. some more NKF type bhuddist organisation would not be good thoughOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:Yes I agree with you that training the next generation is very important for the Buddhist community, and that is what my Buddhist organisation has also found and is trying to do.. However, I think more Buddhist organisations does more good than harm, as in they can help reach out more people and more young..
