Gorgeous Jade Seah recounts her 'Ugly Betty' phase while growing up

BEAUTY may be in the eye of the beholder, but Jade Seah was certainly not a sight to behold in her younger days. With nerdy glasses, bad teeth, scaly uneven skin, pimples and 'oil glands that were going mad', the beauty queen was an Ugly Betty back then.
'When I was 13, my body was changing due to puberty. Because I was doing a lot of running and netball, and spent most of my time in the sun, my skin just wasn't smooth,' she told The New Paper recently.
'My front teeth were overlapping, so I had braces for two years when I was in junior college. It hurt and I just didn't want to smile too much.'
Add to that the fact that she was also taller than her peers. She reached her current height of 1.71m when she was 14. 'I was gawky because I was so tall and skinny, but I didn't know what to do with my height except to use it on the court,' she added.
She also wore aviator metallic glasses ('But it was not trendy at that time, so it was just not cool.') She switched to contact lenses at 14 as glasses interfered with her sports.
'I certainly had quite a few Ugly Betty moments then,' she added with a chuckle. But what a world of difference now.
The TV host is the new face of Nivea Visage. It is the first time the skincare brand is endorsed by a celebrity, who is picked to launch its Deep Pore Control range.
Even then, the 23-year-old remains nonchalant about her beauty regime. 'I'm too lazy. I have tried to put this lotion and that cream but I never stick to it.
'I like to keep to a simple skincare routine, I can't do one of those 14-step crazy regimes.'
She also eats as she likes, despite the pressures of looking thin for the cameras.
She said: 'I'm quite bochap about my diet. Life is short, what's the point of starving yourself ? As long as you don't look like a cow and can maintain your weight, I think it's okay.'
Jade added: 'I'm really happy with the way I look. But no one has said I'm God's gift to men.'
Now that she's embarking on her showbiz career with MediaCorp, she hopes to score an Ugly Betty role in future. 'Even the most gorgeous people do not wake up feeling gorgeous every day. Everyone has an Ugly Betty moment and it'll be fun to play that.
'Moreover, for the months that I'll be filming, I won't have to keep looking good!' -
im begining to like her more...coz she is true to herself not like some who aim for perfection in life...like pimples? its a no-no to some celebrites who wont admit and think she is perfect...way to go jade!! her personality is nice and sweet
but still she is not a ugly betty in my eyes since the day of her in miss singapore -
