The hot looks or not tends to be very different OFF the lens. With a mag shoot, the subject has the help from the make-up artist, professional photographer, stylist, art direction and of cos, the DI artist for post productions. That's why the subject tends to look better in lens, they are subjected to a controlled 'environment'.
