Reasoning:
Why diabolic edict instead of lightning storm?
Diabolic edict does far more damage than lightning storm can ever hope to do. Lightning storm has a poor mana/damage ratio and is bad harassing skill. Just a RoR will counter this weak harass. Why even bother harasing them when a split earth/diabolic edict will kill them in one go at full health. Even at level 2 edicts damage of 800 is enough to get a kill.
Why split earth instead of lightning storm?
This is a much better skill than lightning storm because its a stun. The stun will be very useful to let you get in close with edict and nova. Granted it is harder to hit but with a little practice it is much more effective.
Why pulse nova at level 6? It uses too much mana.
Tormented soul at level 6 has 533 mana. His skills are not worth harassing with so you generaly will have a fairly full mana pool. It is much better to save your mana for his devastating combo. Level 2 split earth costs 125 mana. Level 3 diabolic edict costs 135 mana. This leaves you with 273 mana. This equates to 6 seconds of pulse nova which means 396 more AoE damage.
Why is stats leveled instead of lightning storm?
Tormented soul can be incredibly fragile. Points in stats are critical to buffing his low HP and increasing his mana pool for longer pulse nova. Assuming you have level 2 pulse nova, which is about the time. The 145 mana from lightning storm would let you use pulse nova for an extra 3 seconds which equates to 300 damage.
Lightning storm is learned later when you have a much bigger mana pool due to soul boosters and you can now support the extra spells. If you look at the calculations in the team battle section you will see there is room for lightning storm in your mana pool, with some to spare.
Why not skip diabolic edict and use the mana to let pulse nova run longer?
Diabolic edict is a much more mana efficient spell than pulse nova. For only 155 mana you can do in the vicinity of 1600 damage.

Techiniques and Strategies to Learn:
Starting : Buy your starting items quickly and make your way to either the bottom or top lane. This is not for greedy solo reasons it is because the middle lane offers little space to run after an enemy before you reach the tower. During the early game all you can do is farm and deny with last hit. Leshrac's animation is pretty slow so it takes a little while to perfect. Dont be lazy and just attack. Practice makes perfect. Leshrac's skills are not good harassing skills so dont bother with that. Its all out or nothing so save your mana for an opportunity. If you get sent back to the fountain from a heavy harass you may want to consider another RoR or maybe just a flask.
Mid-Game: You might want to have now boots once your level 8. Once getting 1200 gold get a Point Booster, and continuing working on a Voidstone. Now your MP-regen is better. Do not hesitate and start ganking some heroes. Farm up then get Blink Dagger ASAP.
Late-Game: During late game your damage starts to become a little less effective. Focus on finishing that aegis and getting Euls/Guinsoo. The disables will become very useful for stopping powerhouse late game heroes. Use pulse nova now for farming as you have the mana capacity to support it and it clears a wave in 5 seconds getting you all the gold. Having BoT will make this alot easier. Often you will find you can teleport in and push a tower with all your spells and get out before the enemy can react in time.
Techniques:
Killing -
Lead with a split earth on your preffered targets. Run in close during the stun duration and activate diabolic edict and pulse nova. Then, Chase the enemy heroes, trying to keep them all within your damage radius. Do not attack unless they stop and try and fight you. Finish with lightning storm if desired.
Blinking to Escape/Kill -
Escape - Blinking through cliffs into fogged areas will make it impossible for most enemies to follow and even blinkers will have trouble seeing where you went.
Kill - Think of a scenerio of killing any hero but he/she takes a sudden turn and runs out of my damage radius. Blink after him to finish the kill.
Pushing Towers -
To push a tower first kill all of the enemy creeps. Activate diabolic edict and run in close to the tower. With no enemy creeps every wave of edict will hit the tower taking off more than 1/2 its HP.
