  Aiya, F1 driver, tia kong F1 next year no more liao leh. You go west gate and see the train then come and tell me if youngster without class 3 license can operate or not? Kiddies' parent also must see a mature Uncle then will let their childs take mah, call one young secondary student can see Kiddo to KK hospital one hor.

  Can also must be 21yo and above mah, you must understand young people aspiration and ego mah, there is 1 type of job that young people or even high pride older people like to avoid within this catergory of work. 1. Overly exposure to public leading to shame. There are many jobs out there, but people not only claim that pay is low, but need to show face on the public, you go ask a 21yo poly student to drive the train, later, his family, his classmates, his polymates, his outside friends see already,...sure disturb him and look down on him, end up bullying him. Me lau Uncle no face liao, casket also can, pHV also can, taxi also can,...now train also can...people know me well, even if one day I become toilet cleaner at T4 or T5 Changi AP, hope you all press the very good service icon.   Younger tds are more likely to be discriminated than older tds.

  Every industry there are discrimination same like freshgrads kena also, the real deal is to swallow it focus on your work and move on. I don't take taxi regular but most of the time taxi uncle will tell me gan gan lai join TD, very friendly nothing to be afraid of customers' complain no problem one etc. I just renew it after three years and keep inside wallet.

  Most responded by saying u go try on sunday first. Think most didn't want to discourage me after hearing me enthusiastically saying that i just got my tdvl.

  Unlike yester years, today, TDVL is a death certificate, because taxi driving is no more a glory income job, and it profit is diminishing as years goes by, not mainly on PHV competition, but also from more buses on the road, and more MRT lines. The label given to taxi driver of Singapore as "Taxi Uncle" is not derived out of nothing, because TDs in earlier years, was mend for oldies, those in their late 40s, or 50s, 60s, whereby they are retrenched or retired with grown up children, in early years of industrialization, we have many young singaporeans, so whenever they board a taxi, they will call "Uncle" and that name stay till today. But today, sadly, many youngsters are coming into driving trade, be it phv or taxis, is there something wrong with our education??? High score in PSLE, world class education, top 10 universities in the world, best polytechnics in Asia.....etc etc...end up churning taxi and PHD drivers????? and other jobs taken by foreigners???

  I dun mind ppl address me as uncle. But frankly i will feel embarrassed initially to tell my frds , relatives that i drive taxi or even pick up pax that i known. 

  Many people still thinks that taxi driving is a last resort job.

  It is not the last resort, and to be a resort also mean that the job is relaxing, easy, own time own target, like going to a resort for holiday. Now there are about 48,000 phv driving, nearly half are partimer, it that also a last resort? if so, then my casket driving is better than taxi or phv, at least, not the last resort.

  Took a cab this morning. The cab uncle asked me to think abt cpf contribution, housing loan, annual leave, sick leave and bonuses. After that i no mood to chat more with him abt taxi career. He's a retired and drive 9 hours daily. No financial commitment. Kind of envy him.

  Yes he is. I personally dun thk being a td is last resort. It's just another alternative for me. A job that i have been thinking of for many years.
