A shocking call from Smrt.

Just received a call from Smrt just now. Asking me am I interested to drive private taxi for them. They are calling all ex smrt drivers to see anyone interested. They are launching private taxi if got enough quota to start this project. This is what he told me. For more information n scheme will let me know in due date.
Seems like more n more company coming out with private taxi.

Its a no brainer mah. Private taxi COE last 10 yrs. If 'taxi' got no taker, can rent out at higher price or sell off. No need install MDT, roof top signage, paintwork. Everything save.

Private car or taxi no need to follow smlj Quality of Service and KPIs. Demand good, just increase fleet. Suka suka set price and own rules. No need to see LTA face. Can invite all foreigners and PRs to join. No need to limit to sinkies only.

Imagine collect a mierasable 50 cents call levy from you better
or collect a 20% levy of the fare from you better ?

last night at petrol station saw a private car waiting for calls fr GT.then tried to bid for a job but not successful but saw the private car going off with a call!so i see most jobs going to these people and elite groups.only those taiko calls throw to u.

LTA should have more yellow top taxi instead. open up the taxi market for those drive more than 10 years but the licence cannot be transfer and can only own one car.

Sounds like someone impersonating SMRT and asking cabbies if they are interested to rent a 'car' from them. I wont be surprised if the caller is a used car dealer. Dont get scammed.
One to two months ago, a girl called and asked my views of grabtaxi using foreign talents as their drivers. I straight away cut the line after I heard the word 'FT'. Journalist want cabbies view also must book their cab for hourly disposal mah. KNN want interview us and expect us to entertain them for free?

Not surprising at all. More lucrative than running a traditional taxi company with so much overheads. 20% comm vs 30 cts? Who don't want? UberX has set the trend and other clones are appearing now. This is totally expected.
Going forward, CDG surely will come into the fray. Maybe even Hailo & EasyTaxi will come in or other taxi apps companies also.
But if LTA requires driver licensing, then it will hard for them to get drivers. If can get TDVL, many will prefer to drive taxis. LTA could save the day for TDs....

Very simple lah, if yr income today is more than few years ago, thing is still ok, then, take these pte car or taxis as a supplment to our no taxi period, if your income remain the same than few years ago, then we hv to make noise, because inflation will set in for us. But if your income is lower than last time....throw key or switch to private

Switch to pte may not be any good lah, bro.
Go read the forums and FB pages on these pte car services. Most say no good if not for the incentives thrown out by UberX & Grabcar. If they withdraw these incentives, which they will eventually, drivers chiak chow.
So it is lose-lose for TDs soon. Stay on die, switch also die. Sad to say because I am now a TD also but I see a no win situation for us unless LTA comes in hard.
Disruptive technology is making it easier and more economical for users (and lucrative for the companies) but the "coolies" doing the dirty job, ie, drivers, all suffer. Hopefully with LTA licensing requirement plus more competition for drivers from other players, drivers' earnings will improve since it will be harder to get drivers.

My private does not imply you drive pte car or taxis, meaning you go out of driving trade and do private stuff, be waiter or 4D counter staff also good. Taxi drivers already so cham liao, imagine pte driver?? That day I go argue with Mr Teo over a lunch, he said cdg driver are not civil servant, I told him, Cdg tho privatised, but govt is the biggest share holders, so they should give us the SG50 $500 bonus, to cdg staffs and drivers...he bky, bang kopitiam table and walk away. LJ lah, TCSS only mah, why take so serious, like many forumer here. Relax

How can blue yellow sonata drivers be civil servant? Like that those veolia rubbish trucker and hdb ft construction workers are also civil servants. No wonder ah teo ki xiao. You dont anyhow talk and make people angry mah. Imagine yr children say they married a civil servant. Then u ask what he or she is doing and they say taxi driver
