  All these is a matter of sooner or later, and bear in mind, these are all already Singapore citizens, as the economy remain bearish, those FT who have turn to become Singapore citizens might hv lost their job or find that TD is actually quite lucrative in term of their paid, so off they go, there are also pinoy and chinamen driving taxi here. As our locals are aging, and the young ones who com into taxi trade do not last long, we naturally will see a rise in FT (who are now Singapore citizen) on the road as taxi drivers, to them, this is actually not what they envisioned when coming to Singapore, they will thinking of living in Condo, hv maids, peace and harmoney, work in high rise building as banking or IT consultant, but end up....taxi driving.

  it's nothing to them,after they make enough money,they just retire or go back to their own country.just like the Brazillian and Croatian footballers,China ping pong and badminton players.in my class last time got 2 Pinoy also taking taxi course.

  No lapse, with so many FT becoming new citizens, surely many will fall through the gaps

  They are not FTs lah. Citizens already. If dont allow them to drive, then it makes no sense dorfor them to be citizens, might as well be PR

  How you become a Singapore citizen comes with lots of critieria, and most important is meritocracy, meaning education qualification and those who contributed to Singapore society and economy like serving NS or giving birth to babies bearing Singapore citizenships. Most as I said before, came in with a position of bankers or executive position in hand, so they were then labelled as Talented, and our govt, due to the desparado of getting the population to move up and the economy to rise, have given out lots of citizenships and PRs to foreigners, from fake certificate to borderline entry. Therefore, a portion of them, who cannot perform to a standard of Talent, could be due to fake certificate or third world lazy managing, get removed from their job. So, they end up looking for taxi driving to survive. In another words, Singapore govt, instead of attracting Talents, they attracted Trash and taxi drivers. Sad indeed. Today, our govt is back peddling back, one reason could be due to GE coming, and to stop all these incompetency of talents selection, the only way is as someone here had posted, coming GE2016, you should know what to do.

  Native is Malay and Sakit peoples leh. knn, end up we chinese also cannot drive.

  We can say new citizens not up to mark. If they think its easy to turn steering, don't get 'f' by pax, just carry on.

  With UberX, private car can become taxi without the need to pay taxi licence, driver can be without TDVL; local, PR, foreigner and also below the age of 30 years old.

  The way govt liberate this country is our of scope, end up there are lots of loopholes for peoples to explore, that is why, it is important that when govt set policies, the stakeholders must be involved, otherwise, only scholars using their collar to think at their own theortical ideas can only end up with no sense.

  How can, taipei have a homogenous population, we here have a rojak population...cannot be lah. Country like jpan, korea, taiwan and even thailand etc, their population are homogenous, meaning majority one kind of people only. That is why, they are more united, and their govt have to keep changing under their pressure of UNITY. Ours is rojak type, so end up, every individualistics, not united, which also play into our govt game, they know that a fragmented society will not be able to go against them. So, that is also why they bring in or add in more stuff into the rojak, the pinoy, indians, PRC, myanmar and so on until you even lost your identity. In the 70s and 80s, when I told people I am Singaporean, most people will just nod their head, today, when I tell people I am Singaporean, they will ask, new citizen from PRC, or you born here, or you from malaysia or you look like pinoy...alamak. I just quote you one example of UNITY of taxi driver at work, in news, thailand taxi drivers boycott japanese pax at AP because one of it driver was accused of overcharging a jap pax, and the jap pax complained. If this happen in Singapore? who cares, nobody pick, limpek go pick and go, smlj jap or ang mo or orangutan also take, as long as for surcharge and pass midnite

  It takes someone of a PR status of minimum 10 years plus active contribution to be a New Citizen here. Those New Citizens who were cleared by LTA for TVDL had been staying in Singapore for at least 15 years. Mentioned by one of the STA trainers.
