  [CNA] LTA embarks on trial to reduce waiting time for taxis

  

  Technology such as heat sensors and cameras will be deployed at seven taxi stands to aid in better matching taxi supply with demand, according to the Land Transport Authority.

  SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority on Wednesday (Nov 5) announced it will embark on a year-long trial for its Taxi Information System (TIS) from today, aimed at reducing waiting time for passengers.

  Seven taxi stands were identified for the trial: HarbourFront Centre, Hitachi Towers, Keck Seng Tower, Lucky Plaza, Ngee Ann City, OG People’s Park and VivoCity. They will be fitted out with heat sensors to detect commuters waiting in the taxi queue in real time, and supported by intelligent camera technology that displays footage for taxi drivers and commuters to view the queue status, said LTA.

  

  The average passenger waiting time at the taxi stands will be calculated based on the information collected, and transmitted to the taxi companies' call centres. These call centres can, in turn, broadcast the information to their drivers to encourage unhired taxis to call at taxi stands with high demand, it added.

  "With the TIS, taxi drivers can reduce empty cruising while commuters can also look forward to shorter taxi waiting times," LTA stated.

  In the initial stage of the trial, the system is configured to alert the taxi companies' call centres automatically when there are 15 or more people in the queue, and when the average waiting time for a taxi is more than 15 minutes. The agency said the algorithm will be calibrated where necessary during the trial.

  

  Commuters can make use of the www.mytransport.sg or MyTransport.SG mobile app to access real-time footage of the taxi passenger queue, which would help them decide if they want to join the queue. The app is only available for Android users currently, and the iOS version will be "available later", according to the press release.

  The information on average waiting time at the taxi stands will be available at the end of this year, the LTA added.

  但在众多乌节德士站中，ION Orchard商场的德士等候情况最为严�，下�5时至晚上11时的候车时间介于9至34分钟。

  Simple solution can solve waiting time issue. Pax just need to booking taxi if dont want to queue. Instead LTA spending so much money on such system for what.

  Which TD don't know whether there will be paxs at the mentioned taxi stand at certain time???? And why there's no taxi at the mentioned taxi stand at that "certain time"...

  Again, I have to say this... it's not about not enough taxis... just where will the "certain" taxis be at "certain" time is the real issue...

  Lj lah, even AP also cork up, talk smlj cab match pax...AP, T3 electronic board wrote Taxi 0 ..Arrival 12....knn limpek reach there, Q for 45minutes..phui..smlj technology. End up limpek give hirer fark for being late in changing shift. LTA knn, jia liao bee one...you think TDs dunno where are the paxs are??? it is a matter of song or buay song to go Q only, smlj vivo city or harbour front no taxi...go put a $3 surcharge there lah, see got taxi go Q or not. Limpek no need smlj appos also know where got pax, where long Q of pax, where got no cabs and where got long Q of pax....knn, LTA still think we small kids...playing with apps ar?? Allow taxi free into CBD during peak period, see got pax Q there or not, all sarbo liao...jia sia brain...there put surcharges on harbour front and vivo, see how sentosa call going to suffer

  There is always taxi available. It is the question how to best allocate the available taxi for those willing to paying booking fee. The booking system need to do a better jon. For those not willing to pay more, then wait. Another reason why some taxi stand need to wait long is because the location. E.g. mandarin hotel can get pax easily during peak hr why td need to go ngee ann city. Ion is due to $3 cith surcharge. No need to spend money on such stupid system.

  I think the system works 2 way lah (if it is meant to be and only for a couple TS)..

  Paxs who wait long long at ION or Far East can walk to Lucky Plaza TS for taxi if there's a long queue of taxi there.... But then hor,, tell me which pax (who queue in Far East or ION) don't know that taxi will be available at Lucky Plaza...

  Really?? Should try calling cab between 5pm to 6.30pm at MBS....

  Maybe you are right, there is always taxi (not taxis) available.. Are there enough taxi at that time to cater the paxs there?? And why only certain timing there will be long queue of paxs and not all the time??

  Look gentlemen, Singapore is a busy city, it operate 24hrs, and with a capitalist govt who rule this country like a company, they will alway want Singapore to make more profit for them, therefore, at any one time, some places will be in need of cabs. And of course, at certain time, there will be a window period of no paxs, therefore, it is very difficult to match taxi with pax, even nite driving, at time zouk big party, at time st james special part, at time halloween, at time this and that..how to match, they at conventional centre, at time bo lang , at time big convention going on for days, full of paxs here and there. So, as a cosmopolitan city that run 24hrs with all kinds of events coupled with a complaining cutlure, we, the taxi drivrs of Singapore will alway be a focus point of the public, and also the loser.

  LTA can solve all the cab availability problems now if they wanted to. Just like anti-vice can clean up all geylang freelancers and massage parlors today if they wanted to.

  But then once the problem is solved, they will not be needed anymore. So better put up a wayang and implement a LPPL policy than to lose their jobs right?

  Imagine tomorrow no more robbers, than police will be laid off right? Better catch a few and show people u r working than to catch all and get laid off next month.

  LTA no need much wayang one lah, lj, they also not incharge of taxis, they are Land and Transport Authority, care more on COE, road and offenders, as for taxis, they go for those penalty, fines and errand drivers than care about your taxis calls or availability, and for that matter, they not happy, just summon all the taxis companies' bosses and NTA, than ask them to wake the fark up...they no need to wayang one. Happy only, can said no more peak hr,..not happy only, extend peak hr period...like this lor..cb, COE still very high
