Correct, Singapore without natural resource that even a papaya hv to be import in, what you expect them to be, of course go into an industrialisation, in the early years, we got -
Small local shops, then some grew big and went into factorisation, and then govt set up industrialisation, then by 90s, we go into knowledge base, then globlisation base, then talent base economy and going forward, into high tech economy. What went wrong was the talent base concept, perhap, LKY biggest mistakes in his foresight was the STOP AT 2 campaign, and this lead to Mr Pinky having to struggle with today shortage of manpower and aging population, and by the time he try to create a baby booming cycle, it did not work out even with so much goodies to offer. But nevertheless, past is past, As I travelled many 1st world industrial places like sweden, denmark, germany, japan, britain, canada, and of cos US of A. I see most took in foreigners only as a back up when economy are good, and when project or business is done, they are sent back, and the term use is USE and Discard. Ours is different, USE and HOLD, why? because our govt attracting Talent or Trash, hv 3 agendas instead just one, first, like all other 1st world economy, is to supplement the booming economy due to shortage in the workforce. Secondly, in hoping that they get PR and later become our citizen due to our shortage in birthrates and decreasing population 3rdly, by attracting 3rd world talents or trashes, it will be cheaper and thereby reduces the companies cost inorder to stay competitive and at the same time, depress local wages so that they will continue to work and struggle for a living.
