SINGAPORE: The National Taxi Association is working with cab operators to enhance taxi co-sharing -- where more than one driver uses a cab, and take turns in plying the roads.
Both will look into formalising hiring arrangements, where two drivers will be assigned to a new vehicle.
Some 250 taxi drivers took part in a Share-a-Taxi workshop on Saturday, meant to help them network and deal with the challenges of finding relief drivers.
The need for relief drivers has become more pressing as taxis meet higher availability standards to ensure more cabs are on the road serving commuters.
The association is also in talks with cab operators to bring the co-sharing concept further, through a formal agreement between the hirer and relief driver, to clarify and protect each other's roles and responsibilities.
Mr Ang Hin Kee, advisor to the National Taxi Association, said: "The concept is to make every taxi work harder, not every taxi driver. As it is today, the taxi driver drives about 12 hours a day over the six to seven days a week. So having more than one driver manage a taxi - it's easier and safer, and a smarter way."

This one long long ago, I already told you all liao...due to relief and hirer buay gum, what they are trying to do is to sustain the partnership, this help to defray a hirer and relief mentality, in another words, no more hirer and relief, all are actually know as Driver. But what this ah Ang High Kee unable to forseen is, do you think such partnership will last??? the next moment, the other driver complain, my partner did not wash properly, my partner did not put fuel to the top, my partner did not this and that... With this in hand, those with reliefs still can go on, what transpired here is that, there is another avenue for driver to choose, and that bring about competitiveness in our local hirers and relief partnership, meaning if this works, current hirers might suffer, they might not find relief, and that lead to them having to slash price and chin chai more...lols

Currently, we have 100000 TDVL holders and getting more in Sg.....
Only 250 took part?.....

Like me, ex-TD, was not inform of this workshop until now nia.....

100000 TDVL had been there since the 90s, it is not new, many took it as a cautiou of recession or temporary out of job, so in true, only abt 50,000 are driving, and some had already throw key, people like you mah..lols And for the 250 to take part, NTA must provide packet lunch, packet drink and lucky draw one hor..if not maybe only 25 attend...knn, rental so high, where got time go attend smlj W/shop?? tio bo?

NTA ka ki organise, ka ki song lor, as long as got crowd, can start liao lor. Maybe only 100 turn out, but told the media 250 lor..knn, limpek where got time to go, pick also pick buay hu liao, if not driving, also need to sleep for the next shift mah, then also need to sex, play game,,,
