Changi to build new cab holding area

The sight of a tailback of cabs queuing along Airport Boulevard, sometimes stretching as long as a kilometre, may be a thing of the past with the construction of a double-storey taxi deck at Changi Airport. When completed in the second half of next year, the upper deck of this structure will be a new holding area for taxi drivers queuing to pick up passengers at Terminal 1 (T1), relocating them away from the main traffic flow. It can hold around 300 cabs, which is triple T1's current taxi holding capacity. Comparatively, Terminal 2 can accommodate 190 waiting taxis, while Terminal 3's (T3's) capacity is 250. Changi Airport Group (CAG) said yesterday that this will "allow more taxis to queue within a safer environment, away from heavy traffic movements, minimising the risk of accidents and inconvenience" to the motoring public. The new open-air deck will be above the existing T3 taxi holding area, and will feature a ramp to connect taxis to T1. Toilets will be built on the deck for cabbies, and they will also be able to access a nearby canteen at T3. The taxi deck will cost $50 million to construct, and is also expected to serve the upcoming Project Jewel, a complex with retail outlets and airport services, which will be completed in 2018. It will also enable more accurate tracking of the taxi count, and allow taxi drivers to better gauge the demand at various terminals through data displayed on information boards along Airport Boulevard and through a mobile app. Mr Ng Chew Song, CAG's senior vice-president of projects and contracts, said the current tailback, which occurs during the wee hours of the morning, takes up one lane of Airport Boulevard, which is "not ideal" for traffic movement. CAG assistant vice-president of corporate and marketing communications Robin Goh said: "With Terminal 4 and Project Jewel coming up, there will be increased activity... we will have more taxi drivers with the increased demand." National Taxi Association vice-president Harry Ng said accidents, while rare, can occur because motorists who are not aware of such a long queue on the main road can hit the back of the taxis. Cabby David Tang, 47, who goes to T1 two to three times daily to pick up passengers, is looking forward to the holding area. However, he had one small request. "Try to plant some trees on the second deck. The weather is hot from 1pm to 2pm," he said. -

See lah...anyhow queue until outside main road tio complain liao....KNN now T3 queue area affected. Go in T3 also affected. 3 lanes close 1 lane. How to do business like that.

So the new holding area is at the existing T3. So in future it becomes 2 storey.But how can the new holding T3 link to T1 arrival ?

Queue will still extend until main road......
Actually, don't even need to spent this kind of money, really waste tax payer money lor.....
Just tighten rule for queueing can liao mah.....
Issue summon to those queue at main road TD, $200 fine, you see got TD dare to queue until main road again or not.....
Really jiak liao bee 1 la......

We TD are 贱骨头 1.....
There's a lot of landmarks in Sg restricted TD from queueing beyond the limited space.....
Knn those they can control so well, but AP cannot?.....
Of course you don't stop me, I sure queue lor, we è´± mah.....

Aiyah...most taxis stands say queue for one, two or at most five taxis only. But knn, always see like 10 taxis queueing...the OG people's park one can queue until traffic junction. Lol.

orchard rd also jam knn lucky plaza can queue untill bus lane
then bus got no choice but need to cut into center lane

causing jam bcoz entire right lane kena block by taxi
best part tat day tis both taxi stands bo lang but they still queue
n the list goes on n on,dunno where the fark the LTA officers were

50 million to build holding area...knn cannot believe. what a waste of money.. must be state of the art...got massage chair for TDs, air conditioned , drive thru mac kiosk etc....

But when enforcement cum, all chao like see ghost like that.....
Than why those TD queue until main road at AP, see enforcement never chao leh?.....
Some even can smoke inside taxi somemore.....

For us to TCSS mah, then they also can do promotion there for TD, like singtel or M1 promotion, taxi parts and gadgets sales, then election time, MP and minister also can go there for rally mah, if not taxi drivers no time leh -

if really want to build, might as well have a common multi-storey carpark that connect to all terminals, then td only need to q at one place instead of thinking which terminal to go, taxis can be distribute more efficiently according to the demands of individual terminal........
a long the q, also can have some small boy going round to sell curry pok, pok pia...... and ma pew po, sin ming po, ma chiam last time go stadium watch soccer like that......

Bo lah, tia kong, no canteen operators want to operate further, could be due to high rental and only serving taxi drivers' market is not enuf, furthermore, most of these operators are getting old and their childrens do not want to end up selling KOPI! Curry Pok!! Kuay Chee! on the road. The new T3 or future foods and drinks for cabbies Q will be all Vendor machines
