Taxi Driver Murderer Should Hang

I'm sure you guys have read about the case of the unfortunate murder of taxi driver Yuen Swee Hong on Aprill 11th 2009. His murderer, Chinese national Wang Wenfeng was convicted and sentenced to death.
However with the review of the death penalty, all capital cases had sentencing reviews and Wangs case came before trial judge Lee Sieu Kin in November last year and he accepted the defense argument and reduced the sentenced to life imprisonment plus 24 strokes.
The prosecution is now appealing the new sentence. I am usually not keen on the death penalty but in this case I believe it should be imposed. It's not because he's a foreigner or because the victim is a TD, or even the cruel mental torture he put Mdm Chan (Mr Yuen's wife) through. That's extortion and a separate issue from murder.

The relaxation on captial punishment by Singapore govt is due to external pressure, human rights group, the west and many other jiak liao bee NGOs are behind the pressure exertion to our govt. Having said that, Singapore, without any resources, depend very much on global economy, the likes of US, China and some western countries with a huge economy potential for Singapore in term of business and investment, the pressure is at time, aligned with a need to lax on our local laws on capital punishment so as to join group like Apex, OEDC, and many other economy forum and summits. As our laws diversified itself to gain popularity in our land, the govt must be careful on what they are setting, which will be a precedent of laws, as such, this sentencing on a PRC killing a Singaporean TD, will fix as life sentencing, any later rules will be arguemental. On the other hand, not being racial discriminating, if it was a Local killing a TD, or malaysian..will the ruling be different?? Therefore, the impact of such ruling is not pure in nature, as man make policies and laws, and man do make mistakes. Hopefully, this do not become a big mistake just for the sake of PRC.
