I support this idea.
Taxi should have only two fares : Normal taxi and Limousine taxi fares.
Obvious benefit is off coures to the commuters fir having flat fare sructures, but there are also other benefits to other stakeholders.
It is time that the power should be taken away from taxi companies. We all know that any fare adjusments (read : fare hikes) is only to the benefit of the companies and not to TDs, or worse to pax.
By setting same standard fare accross the taxi companies, they are forced to compete (for renntal business from TDs), either by giving better services (DROs, workshop, rebates, etc) and also being more efficient (ie, pushing down their costs, capital expenditures for new cheaper fleet, etc).
Taxi business should first be a service to commuters and not means for taxi companies to maximise profits.

Mobile phone plan, every company plan is different. each complany also got many different plan. Many hawker centres, many stalls, many different rates. Got confusion? Why nobody complain?
What is taxis service? public transport? PTC will tell u it is not under their care. Obviously, the authority does not see taxi service as a public transport.. Taxi service is on demand very short term cheap rental of private vehicle with chauffeur service?

well bs5126 i dont quite agree with your statement of having 2 fares. Based on business strategy, how are you going to balance the cheque book?
Eg, buying sonata vs i40 or crown vs i40? Will you give them the exact flag down rate for both models? Who will eat the 'dead cat'? the losses? i believe there's a formula on how to calculate the rental, flag down rate? But i believe they, the coy abuse the system.
Still they are looking into overall growth in terms of expanding their fleets to increase their profits. Same logic as what the MIW or the papayas are doing right now. Increase the population to 6.9 mil. you think they just increase? They are already doing it now, they just kindly inform us nia.
Is like profits first, look after drivers later.

You missed my point.
Sonata vs i40 vs crown can have same flag down & jump rate.
But...... the company will have to be forced to have a better rental pricing strategy to get customer (ie, TD renting their cabs), if they don't they will loose out to other company. TD will have the choice of taking the best cab (from best company) who can offer them best ROI.
I pax prefer to take sonata/ i40 over crwon after this fare levelling, it will speed up companies to retire their older vehicles.
Hence is my point that the fare should not be fixed by the company (which will not benefit TDs at all). Let is be open competition for the companies to attract TDs.
We don't want to forever to be the loosing end (of each fare restructuring), do we?
And you may have mixed up the 6.9million issue. Which by the way, same as you I never support.

Taxi companies do not care. But any taxi fare hikes will affect us TDs.

Taxi fares hikes, pax will siam taxi totally or partially.....
Whether temperory siam or forever siam, hardest hit will still be the TD.....
Bo Lang take taxi, give you 1 trip $100 also no use.....

Fare hikes is caused by the companies increasing the rental. So TDs will only help to collect money from pax to pay to companies. End of thee day TD earn nothing.
You see the higher flag down for smlj new expensive car models. Pax pay more but the TD also pay more rental. I believe this is root of the problem commuters are facing now.
I will leave it to our resident chief economist KTCLuckLuckLuck or NTA director Mr. Bowah to explain better about this. :)

So your previous experience tell you that the previous fares hike in 2011 is does not benefit TD. if the fares hike in 2011 does not happen, u should be doing better now.
