Another accident involving bus: Passengers hurt as driver tries to avoid cab
Several passengers on SMRT bus 951E fell and injured themselves after the bus driver made an emergency brake as he tried to avoid colliding into a taxi outside Vista Point in Woodlands at about 8am today.
According to a STOMPer who was one of the passengers on the bus, the cabby had beaten the red light as he was trying to make a right turn at a traffic junction, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a signpost.
She said that when the bus driver stepped on the brakes to avoid crashing into taxi, many of the passengers, including herself, were thrown forward.
One male passenger had apparently fractured his hand while another passenger was unable to get up after falling, said the STOMPer.
She said in her email to STOMP:
"The driver of the yellow cab ran a red light and while the traffic light was green in favor of the bus I was in, the bus driver had to step on the emergency brakes to avoid colliding with the taxi."
She said some of the injured passengers had to be taken to hospital.
The bus driver, who appeared distressed, was also seen talking to traffic police officers after the accident, added the STOMPer.
This was the second incident involving a bus in the last two days. Last night, eight people were sent to hospital following a chain collision involving an SBS bus, a lorry, a panel-van and a saloon car.
