Agreed. But like what you mentioned, it's can be about control. But IMHO, LTA prefer to make taxi driving to be a more respected professional, a better image (for themselves) and encourage/educate future taxi drivers to be more professional in this aspect (even though it's going to take a long time), therefore maybe they can just use 10% of their taxi fleet to test water.
Not necessary for FTs but still mainly for locals. Property agents in my opionion, had changed a lot..
They are going to suffer slight dip in 2016 results anyway. We knew opposition can't really do much but still we want them, cause of they can counter check and balance and garberment might not be like before anymore where they can suka suka do their way.

For locals, might not necessary for FTs.

If bring FT in to drive taxi, many S'poreans no job liao..
Nowadays,ppl go see MP to ask for help in finding a job. First reply from MP is : "Why don't you consider driving taxis?"
Many ppl queueing up to rent taxi. Bring in FT for fark? Bus drivers, for many years, hard to find S'porean to take up this job because must wake up 4am and start work at 5am. One week work morning, one week work night, one week work split shift. Very bad for health.

Agreed. But again not mainly for FTs, or put it this way. Not for FTs at all but only locals.
full time employment for 10% of taxi fleets (maybe cumfxxx) and control the balance. Maybe need 3 shifts (8 hrs ea)? So ard 20k jobs created?

you think so? Without having to worry about rental? and still have some (maybe just some) benefits? with an average of maybe $1500 - $1700?
Of course, I personally won't take it, but still there are some ppl out there perhaps working as storekeeper with income of ard $1200-$1300 who might take the bite.
Of course, they have to consider the CPF portion lah... Then they can increase their fare lor... Some paxs mentioned they don't mind paying more so long as there are cabs for them..

I also strongly believe tat the time will come when PRs/foreigners take over taxi trade,like bowah said u never know what's going on behind close doors
next time take cab pay by card liao like mrt/buses,how many still use cash to pay? all cabs install gps/cam so td just key in nia,everything computerised
setting up dormitories blah blah not a big deal,can be done one,worried abt fall in votes? no prob tds don't make up the majority category
matter of time paxs will adjust to the changes.anything is possible la so pls enjoy while u still got the chance,next time bo liao hor

Most pax do not have very high expectations of TD service level:
1. Just bring from Point A to Point B safely. Go shortest route unless pax prefer another route.
2. Just drive. If pax want to talk, then TD can chat. Otherwise, keep quiet and just drive.
3. If make mistake and pax not happy, just apologise and drive on.
4. If pax guai lan, just keep quiet and drive on. Lun 20 mins nia.
So difficult to achieve meh? Then must bring in FT to improve service level?
Knn, some TDs must chut all kinds of pattern, scold pax, point finger, shout, fight. For what?
But, one thing I dun understand is. When cannot get cab or wait long long at taxi queue, why complain and blame TDs? Lazy lah, choosy lah blah blah...
When go see doctor in polyclinic, wait 1 hour, why neber complain?
When go ICA collect passport, wait 2 hours, why neber complain?
When go Malaysia,kena stuck at causeway for 3 hours, why neber complain?
When go and see MP at the MPS, wait 4 hours, why neber complain? Sometimes get to see MP kah kia oni.

During YOG last time, we can say we are consider "employed" staff to met YOG transport requirement.....
Than for a short period of time, you already can see many pattern from different TD....
I still can remember, 1st day of reporting, already got 1 TD tio pok, reason, using YOG vehicle to pick up his own customers.....
Than we also can see, keng TD, jiak snake TD, hardworking TD, siao on TD (like me).....
Everybody was paid equally for the whole duration of YOG.....
So if coy next time want to start with employment of TD, I can be their CON-sultants.....

KNN lah employ foreigner they know the road well or not? Service level comfirm drop lah. Imaging half of the taxi people take merry go round. You say they will kpkb bo? Lol
if FT are employed by timing or travelling distance, then if take 1 pax merry go round whole singapore, they also can punch clock knock off ma..who cares if meter more or less, none of their business
if they are employed by number of pax or by meter, lesser than XXpax per day or $XXX meter means less pay, then you will see a lot of FT fight Local TD for pax, cut queues racing every pattern also have
so how to judge?
Try before leow mah..a few yrs back.....I also took a taxi the driver is hired by the coy huan..he say no good...he want to go back to driving for himself.
i will want to drive for company.. at least i can eat on time, find a proper toilet n go back on time..
yah,they have a scheme for fixed salary,only for locals.pay 1500,who wants

This is what I'm waiting for. Some TDs really spoilt the image for the rest of those hardworking,honest type of Tds. then again, ppl might say just a small portion only.
But, just how this small portion can affect the rest of the Tds? All of us have the ans liao.

I can really see that quite a lot are not against this idea.
Only thing is how to have a enticing pay package for the full time driver.
