You see Ah Fu, singapore is facing 2 teething problems in term of employment, especially for technical and engineering jobs. First, the aging population and second an afluent young Singaporeans.
Age do play a critical role as most cannot do physical works like climbing up a vessel or a construction site stairways. And also, with age, eyesight become poor, cannot do many minor view work like electronic assembly, reading, fault finding and so on.
On the other hands, a well educated youngs tends to look for servicing jobs like banking, retail and hotels industrial, many had also become cooks, chef and captain of restuarant or manager of hotels, notice the boom in hotels??
With such background, we definitely must need foreigners, but good foreigners. Govt had tweated the quotas ratio between Locals and Foreigner, like engineering, formely is 1 is to 5, now reduce to 1 is to 3, by next year, employer have to employ singaporean first, unless unable to get, then apply for foreigner subject to approval.
Increased S pass to 2200 from 2000 and also EP from 2800 to 3300 is going make many foreigner packing their bag home.
Hopefully, we can see a reduction

I think beside cursing and swearing at FT, is better to look at our own self first....
Personally I felt that if you are working for foreign boss, be prepare he will bring in whole board of "ka ki lang".....
If you are working for local boss, be prepare to do more OT and under paid until OBK....

Hyflux is government own run by retired general and colonels, it thrive in china rural area whereby they convert pond and dirty water to pure drinking water for those kampong china. As of Osim, not really a good business and certainly not MNC.
Even AirAsia failed miserably in Japan, because some country will paid for anything that come with quality instead of quantity. Typically, most asian countries including china alway look for quantity, more rice, more veges..but careless of quality, in japan and some europe countries like german, north america..quality is the most important.

Hyflux is not the only company in Singapore cracking their head for our nation in term of water supply also.....

Last time when govt increase electricity, water and oil prices, all kpkb the govt, fark them upside down, now, they tell you, sorry, these are all run privately with Founder and CEOs who have good citations and reputation, and these prices increase are all due to market forces, economy forces...not us.
You see the picture? Now why cdg privatised? why TC run by private, why SMRT got CEO? because they can raise fares up to them mah, not govt problem hor, but behind the scene, they profited

Brother brother, you must understand what govt said when they mention essential protection, what are our basic essential?
It is the basic neccessities for a nation to operate in time of peace and also unforseen circumstances like wars, strikes, protest or Foreigner attack locals..lols
Food, electricity, oil, transport, gas, water, rice and many other daily needs are essential to any nation survivor, as such, govt must hv a hand on it, they are entrusted by the people who voted for them to take care of at least our basic needs, they can involve directly or indirectly, but they must hold responsibility.
To cut it short instead of having to bear my lor sor...What is tiong woon? crane for fark? NTUC fairprice, cdg is not just there to do business hor, in time of trouble, like the recent exercise of cdg on community awareness which they closed their main office, for fark? all because of the need to be wary of when thing goes wrong, govt take over.
So if hyflux that deal with water decided to stop all operation in singapore, pack and leave this country in time of war? singapore water resources become a problem, if Power supply decided being private.. pack up and off all generators in senoko and jurong, leave this country..how? limpeh fark half way all black out...lols..joke aside..The key word here is again, CONTROL
