Even the jap are using crown, not only Hongkong.
Hongkong Taxi are very much privatised, meaning no Govt Link, I use to take cabs whenever I am in Hongkong, but not in Japan (seibei expensive). Hongkong cabbies are youngers, fare cheaper than singapore and also knows their trade very well, however, they are not so high tech like us with MDT, nor do they hv so much surcharges except evening and midnight.
Knowing their trade means they know the road well, HK taxis so far I took, never ask me how I want to go, they will just move on. And on the road, there are plenty of them, just wave only, a cab will be at your step.
Singapore, fast becoming a comospolitan city, changes too fast, and in changing, one of the weak point is Singapore fail to hold it heritage and history. Unlike other asian developed countries, most advanced and yet hold on to their tradition and heritage.
As such, with a quick pace in changing and also wanting to give a better image to outsider, the Govt had given 2 years for crown to ply the road which will end very soon.
This also reflect on our society as a whole with a poor touch on tradition and heritage, our youngs changes very fast, so are our cabs, our landscape and even our roads.
If you look at the history of cab in Singapore, the turnover is getting faster and faster, now is i40, even talking about scrapping sonata liao
