Some 50 Aetos Auxiliary Police Officers (APOs) have been trained to complement the enforcement efforts of the Traffic Police (TP). These auxiliary officers have been taught how to identify traffic violations and lodge reports among other things.
They have been deployed since April this year to between 15 and 20 locations daily. Offences that they take action against include vehicles making illegal U-turns and those beating the red light.
Between April to August, these officers have issued a total of 3,612 summonses to errant road users. They have also carried out more than 2,180 operations on jaywalkers, reckless cyclists and heavy vehicles that commit traffic violations.
Superintendent of police and commanding officer of TP's Patrol Unit Choy Chan Hoe said of the additional manpower: ''Through this enhanced presence, we hope to prevent and deter road users from committing traffic offences and ensure that they put on their best behaviour on the roads at all times.''

what the surprise? sg is n always a place for double standard..
what the difference between extra 50 apo n 50 tp?
extra 50 tp, all must be Singaporeans or PR. Hard to find. Civil service manpower growth tightly controlled.
extra 50apo, can use foreign talent.
create job for tp after retirement.
