Taxi fare adjustment from 1st October 2013
Singapore - Prime Taxi, the smallest taxi operator here, will raise its flag-down fares across it's fleet of 880 cabs from Tuesday, following in the footsteps of Premier Taxis, whose fare hikes were announced last Friday and took effect yesterday.
Prime's customers will have to fork out between an additional 20 cents for smaller models, such as Honda Fit and Toyota Allion, and 50 cents for the operator's Toyota Vellfire Limousine Taxis.
Responding to TODA''s queries, Prime's Deputy General Manager for Taxi Division Neo Chee Yong, said the fare hikes are intended to help cabbies "cope with the rising operating costs of fuel".
With the revision, Prime's taxi meters will start at S$3.20 to S$4.50. It will also raise it's "additional passenger fees" by $2 and $4 for their bigger taxis that can take more than four passengers. For example -
Toyota Estima and Honda Stepwagon from $3 to $6.
Toyota Wish or Honda Freed from $3 to $5.
Vellfire from $5 to $9.
Last Friday, Premier taxis which has 2,100 taxis plying the roads here, announced higher flag down and meter fares that started yesterday.
It's Kia Optima Silver Cabs starting fare was raised to $3.70 while the meter fares for it's
Kia Carnival Silver Lux premier taxis were also adjusted upwards. The first kilometre will cost $3.90, but the customers will have to pay 30 cents for every 400m thereafter up to 10km, and 30 cents every 350m after 10km. For every 45 seconds of waiting, the fare also increases by 30 cents.

To Mr Neow Chee,
To effectively lower the cost burden of your Taxi drivers, the best way is to lower rental and fuel cost, it will directly take effect and at the same time, motivate your drivers. Dun you think so?
By increasing the rentals, fuel cost, and passing it into the consumers eg Paxs. What does your cost burdened driver gain from it?
Thank you
From
Neow Lan

When you, the taxi company rent yr taxis to a hirer, the hirer (Joe) represent 2 roles, one is the customer, the other is the hirer as per se.
When a hirer pick up a pax, the pax is consider as the hirer's customer and also indirectly the taxi company's customer
So what happen when the taxi company decided to increase Joe rental fees (taxi co profit) and fuel surcharges (tax). Joe, given the same amount of time on the road and more or less the same amount of paxs will surely lose out in his income.
As Joe compare companies rental, he decided to switch to a company giving him a lower cost of operating on the road. He thrown key, so are many others. As the teochew saying goes, ti kor liang, ti kor zhor.
Then the high rental and surcharge taxi company decided to increase fares and meters running to compensate their driver lost and also at the same time, hoping to get back more hirers/customer to join them and hire their cabs which is sunbathing for a long time.
End up, paxs who took the cab have to pay a higher cost, taxi company earn more money but hirer get nothing but sour faced passenger and sometime, get scolded for nothing.
You get the picture?
