A former taxi driver was fined $7,000 and banned from driving for three years on Wednesday for negligently causing the death of a motorcyclist. Quek Huang Kwang, 59, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Mr Abdul Ghafar Ibrahim, 45, along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Dec 24 last year.
He had failed to keep a proper lookout for the rider while encroaching into the extreme right lane of the expressway, resulting in the front of the motorcycle hitting the back of his taxi.
The court heard that Quek was driving in the second right lane of AYE that day when he saw a pile of wooden piles in the middle of the lane. He then filtered into the extreme right lane without giving any signal and encroached into Mr Abdul Ghafar's path.
As a result, the rider could not react in time and the front of his motorbike hit the back of the taxi. After the collision, Quek stepped out of the taxi to render help and called the police.

Wonder in such situation, how many people can react in time.....
That vehicle who drop those wooden piles should be charge also.....

Anyway, there is absolutely no intention in getting anyone killed, and that is why it is call an accident. Investigation is likely to study on the scene that led to the accident, and the end of the day, we just hope the one get killed can RIP and his family be blessed.
And for that matter, what is 7k and 3 years ban, it will never replace a life. However, cases involving taxis on the road is alway at the top of the agenda for the public, and usual ending is "Fcuk lah TD again" "shit again TD" " TD, knn all anyhow drive one".....
Had the TD signalled, would he get a lighter sentence? Probably a Sonata..many blind spots..

Partially TD are easily distinguishable
We also see many civilian driver with bad habits, just that its more troublesome to report them.
Once company called me about a driver complaining me, I tell officer straight to ask back the complainant, what lead to the 'show down'. What had the driver had done. In the end he just want to know my side of story and thereafter I never hear from officer anymore. Sometimes civilian driver think TD easy to tekan.
Sometimes sudden lane change or stop is also passengers sudden request. TD can handle situation and just execute it
Very difficult to know exactly what happen at the point of accident lor....
But like what I say, that idiot who drop those wooden piles on the road got to be shot also....
These day, always can see some irresponsible lorry and lorry kia, never secure their items behind the truck properly.....
