A NEW taxi-booking app may soon bring some respite to frustrated commuters who find it difficult to get a cab here.
Called MoobiTaxi, it aims to make it easier and faster for commuters to get their rides by bringing the mobile booking services of all the cab operators under one platform.
Operators like ComfortDelGro, SMRT and Trans-Cab have their own booking services and smartphone apps - services which MoobiTaxi hopes it can consolidate.
The new app, developed by Maven Lab, which helped companies like ComfortDelGro and NTUC with their iPhone apps, also allows commuters to "check-in" their locations.
Nearby cabbies can then use the app, which acts like a radar, to detect the alerts real-time and pick up passengers.
Maven Lab's vice-president of products, Mr Jonathan Pang, said this feature is more effective than hailing a cab on the street.
"It helps to solve the common problem... when some passengers may be waiting in a location not easily seen from the road."
While bigger operators already have an established booking system, Mr Pang said the move will benefit smaller players, like Prime Taxis, which still do not have a mobile booking service.
The latest move comes amid commuter complaints that they are not able to secure cab bookings. The authorities put in place more stringent rules last October, specially to improve services during peak hours.
Among the beefed-up measures, taxi operators must answer more calls and within a shorter time frame.
The largest cab operator ComfortDelGro, which owns 16,600 of the 27,000-plus taxis here, said it already has "a very advanced taxi-booking system", but will consider working with external apps.
Commuter Alvin Lee, who takes a cab to work every day, hopes the MoobiTaxi app will make cab services here more reliable. "On some days, it can take more than half an hour just to book a cab, even though you see empty cabs on the road."
The question is, got call charges or not?....
If got, than just LPPL lor....
Very new app, no reviews yet
Cab company no comment if this can prevent aeroplane bookings, missing passengers, or multiple bookings with different taxi booking app?
or whether TD can differentiate from taxi stand from office lobby
if only taxi driver can find paxs using this apps plus call charges applicable, then it will be useful!
the issue is not with technology
is with the attitude of the cabbies

Wow, meaning for the rest millions times, she speaks with no sense???
Won't work one lah. Which taxi company will want to share their booking data with a third party? If TD no show, whose fault? Who can pax complain to?The app company or the taxi company?
Must overcome the main issues of payments for call booking, confidentiality of data and accountability under the LTA Quality of Service standards. Of course, these involve the question of TD's attitudes as well.

how about attitudes of paxs?making booking but still stand by roadside to take other taxis.keep cancelling calls.no show.cancel our booking when nearing destination cos with phone apps they can see the taxi approaching!then pretend to flag down our taxis cos can save booking charge mah!

Look ah Fu, characteristic and attitudes of paxs and even human, so to speak is hard to change. This kind of stuffs have been going for years since the start of on call system.
And as the saying goes, if thing cannot change, there is only 3 ways you can do,
1. change yourself to adapt: get use to all these type of pax, labelled them as cheapo, and do not pick up them when call cancelled but you know they are the caller.
2. change yourself to accept: to accept that this is part and parcels of TD, if people can hack a computer system, why not pax abuse the call system, pick them up and move on.
3. Throw key and start another new job, new way of working, new life and new timming
