Touts at attractions draw ire of taxi drivers

TRANSPORT touts are taking advantage of Singapore's bustling tourism industry.
And these illegal touts are usually found at popular tourist spots, making taxi drivers unhappy over the competition.
Cabbies said that the touts have been around for at least five years, but have been more active in recent months.
This is especially after the opening of new attractions, such as the integrated resorts, Marina Bay Cruise Centre and River Safari, reported Lianhe Zaobao on Monday.
When Zaobao reporters visited the zoo recently, they saw four men soliciting passengers at the entrance.
The men worked in teams of two - one would look for passengers, while the other would wait in his vehicle.
Once a price is negotiated, they would drive to the taxi stand to pick up the passengers.
The touts usually charged a fixed price or by the number of passengers.
For instance, a ride could cost $30, compared to less than $60 for a Maxicab, or $55 for a limousine.
In less than an hour, at least three groups of passengers were seen leaving in a private mini-van. Each group had more than four adults and would have had to take two taxis. A mini-van can take more than 10 people.Or the touts would charge $10 per person.A tourist from Kuwait, Mr Nawaf, 35, and his family of four were waiting for a taxi when he was approached by a tout, who asked: "Do you want a faster mode of transport?"

But in China, certain places totally no cab at all, if don't take their touting pte car, no way you can get out of that place....
But Sg?.....
Lucky JDIL sell away his Viano liao, arbo he also 1 of the suspects....

Competition aside, I do not think that they are covered by insurance. Any accident causing injury or death would be detrimental to all parties including any other innocent party involved.

Not only in China lah, many other countries including our neighbour countries also doing it.However, in the context of Singapore, the differences with other countries is that we stick by our rules and laws set upon by the govt. Other countries also got laws and rules, the problem is they do not adhere to it. End up no laws and regulations, free for all.
As for touting, there is no way you can clear out, as long as it do not become too excessive, I will take them like selling ice cream illegally, but if too much ice cream sellers start to crowd the place, just like too much illegal prositute start to stand along the lorongs of geyland, then the authorities must take responsibilities and actions

They are every where. Even in AP and MCC they are very active. It's very normal .

All this "pirate" roti jiak are PZ plate, meaning they have obtain BVL in order to operate their business....
Some tag along with "big" limousine coy to dang jiak, some prefer to register their own coy like my dear JDIL did last time....
There's a proper procedure to follow in order to get the roti jiak on the road, insurance is 1 of them.....
The only mistake they have done wrong here is by touting, which is not allow in Sg pertaining to any kind of trade including those bak bak type trying to tout our dear bowah.....

That time I went to their wildlife zoo in super outskirt area....
The cab driver told me, later on you will have problem coming back to city, because no cab will hang around there, too rural....
But he can wait for me, just for 1000rmb, is cheap considering SGD only 200, for 10-12 hour of waiting, cheaper than Sg limousine service....
But limpek "iron teeth", say never mind, we will find our own way back....
After 1 day of fun, like what that cab driver have told us, not a single cab available, all the pirated pte car started to approach us.....
From 300-700.....
Knn, I took that cab come only 150 by meter.....
In the end, settle for 250....
Than on the way back, notice there's a dagger on his dash board.....
Knn, worst journey I have ever had....

Yes, like prositution is legal in singapore, but soliciting is illegal, if people ask them to take them is ok, but if they go and ask peoples, that is wrong.
Wonder what the authority is going to do to all this touting that is violating our regulations in singapore. I guess it will be like MBS casinos case, saying taxis drop off at Convention and casino is only for pick up, but knncccb, many also never follow, then I gong gong go and follow, kenna pax fcuk, telling me "Uncle, other cabs can go casinos and drop, why you die die must drop me at convention centre side"
If singapore wants to improve in it taxis industrial, mode of transport and world class roads, it needs to address this problem fast.

The MBS revised drop-off and pick-up points was supposed to effect from 15 July 2013. In short, Drop-off only at MBS Convention Centre, Pick-up only at MBS Casino.
After almost 2 months this arrangement is still in disarray. KNN. Like Bro Bowah, I also kena fucked by pax for dropping off at Convention Centre instead of Casino.
I guess MBS management has to keep its house in order to gain the trust of TDs. Otherwise, what they say is only music to the ears.
Perhaps, I'll write to the CEO of MBS for clarification. HAHAHAA...

Not only that, sometime, convention side also TD pick up paxs, knn, people wave at me, I just drive on to Q at the casino side, but the back taxis pick them up, I asked the warden there controlling the traffic, he also dun care..fark, world class city

I think the problem is MBS Shopper and threatre entrance are located near taxi stand....
MBS want to fully implement that, than they really have to educate the public as well as tourists well....
Arbo if I'm a TD, pax want to go MBS threatre, you go drop them at Convention Hall, kiam gan only....

The problem lies with MBS when they implemented this regulation but failed to enforce it. If pax gan, ask them to go and gan the MBS management

Ani kuan kong, meaning MBS careless liao lor, they create this policy of drop at convention and pick at casinos is to reduce the jam, especially those moving in from Marina sq side who get stuck at the U turn filtering.

Busy is those event that need car, at one shot call 20-30 cars for shuttle service. If no do these shuttle, u think busy? All the hotels already booked, all come for F1, one night minimum$500-$650++ minimum must pay 3 nights stay.
Those come for F1 never go zoo, bird park or Sentosa, they only at Marina Bay Area, after watch F1 go Clarke quay, disco drinking clubbing.
