  We have such negative perceptions due to a large part (rather ironically), the advancements in IT. Technology has enabled us to get first hand news of disasters from all over the world & even see/hear for ourself on screen.
  
  Fact is, the frequency of natural disasters has slightly decreased based on statistical comparison of the last centuries.

  the impact of realizing such news is very much shaking our consciousness.
  
  those who tend to be pessimistic due to whatever karmic background or present life difficulties, will be extremely prone to bouts of depression.
  
  and we all know where prolonged and severe depression can lead to. neverending hell.
  
  but if it helps, remind yourself of the above fact in bold. as long as we are alive, things are still within our control. if we learn to help ourself.
