A cat is recovering after an extensive act of cruelty.
British cat Puss-Puss survived 30 pellet gun wounds after being shot outside her home in Essex, according to the NYD News. The story cites a press release issued by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), which details the brutal act and the status of Puss-Puss.
The cat had returned home after a week’s absence “dragging her feet, covered in blood and clearly injured,” according to the release. Owner Doug Taw had heard gunshots in the area before Puss-Puss went missing.
Taw rushed her to the vet as soon as she came home, according the the news outlet. The cat is expected to survive; however, one of her eyes must be removed.
“We were shocked to find that Puss-Puss was peppered with such an extraordinary number of pellet wounds all over her body and head,” the Daily News quotes RSPCA inspector Adam Jones as saying. “One was in her paw, making it hard for her to walk, and another in the middle of her eye, causing a detached retina.”
Jones said the damage could have been worse, according to the news outlet, because two bullets barely missed Puss-Puss’ spinal cord.
The shooter has yet to be found
