A police officer in Johor went above and beyond the call of duty to save a kitten trapped in a storm drain, and has earned the admiration - and viral fame - of thousands of netizens nationwide.
Lans Koperal Munir Mansor of the Pagoh police department found the kitten in a drain while he was taking a break from patrolling his assigned area of Taman Pagoh Indah last Friday.
According to The star online s Dina Murad, officer Munir was with the Pagoh police chief when his superior officer heard "meowing sounds".
"When we looked around, we saw a mother cat crying out near a drain,” he said, adding that the kitten could have fallen in the drain.
After finding an entrance to the drain, Lans Koperal Munir tried to reach the trapped kitten to retrieve it, but as the opening was narrow, he was forced to get on his hands and knees to crawl through the drain.
“I saw the kitten and felt sorry for it. I thought I should help it as we are creations of God,” he said.
The kitten has been reunited with its mother, and both are now under the care of the owners of a nearby restaurant. The Pagoh police station plan to adopt the kitten and its mother themselves, but have yet to decide on their names.
The account of Lans Koperal Munir's kindness was posted via the Royal Malaysian Police's (PDRM) Facebook page, where it has garnered more than 37,000 Likes, 2,400 Shares, and likely a massive amount of goodwill from the public, whose perception of the nation's law enforcement force has been lukewarm at best in recent years.
Good on you, Officer Munir!
Good work,keep it up!
