This is the hero cat who chased off a neighbour’s pet dog when it attacked a four-year-old boy.
The tabby, called Tara, curls up next to Jeremy Triantafilo at his home in Southwest Bakersfield, California, as he is interviewed by ABC News following video of the attack being uploaded to YouTube this week.
Tara reportedly adopted the family six years ago after turning up while the boy’s mother Erica and father Roger were on a date. At the time they were unmarried and had no idea they would end up together.
Jeremy, who suffers from autism, can be seen in the video stroking Tara while perched on a sofa; a bandage around his leg clearly visible. He received ten stitches to his leg following the incident.
‘She’s a hero! She has whiskers,’ the little boy gleefully told the interviewer, before leaning in to kiss his best friend on the head.
‘Oops, she jumped!’ he added as she leaped down.
Is she better than any cat in the world? ‘Yes’ he said. And she really is.
