There is something touching and magical about the bond between a stray cat named Fukumaru and its Japanese owner Misao Ihara, 89.
Ever since Misao found the multi-coloured cat soon after her husband passed away, the end of her 54-year marriage was replaced with another incredible relationship.
And for close to 12 years, her granddaughter, photographer Miyoko Ihara, 33, has been photographing every moments of this beautiful friendship.
From picking up fruits at her farm to dining together, Miyoko captured them all.
"Partly because they are both hard of hearing, my grandmother and Fukumaru are always looking into each other’s eyes. They’re really close,” Miyoko was once quoted as saying during an interview.
Miyoko, who is a member of the Photographic Society of Japan, has produced two photobooks - one in 2011 and the other in 2013.
They are called “Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat” and “Goodbye, Hello” respectively.
