Won't you worry if anything bad will happen to the cat?
I'm still thinking of the stray kitten just now. Sometimes I really want to think "they're stray cats and somehow they will survive" but after all it's only a kitten.
That's true, there are tens of thousands of stray cats in Singapore... but well erm, if you can, pick up the stray! Every stray you pick up makes a difference... except when the evil AVA steps in. Cull cats cull cats cull here and there.Originally posted by SGpork:well..what can i do..

wow.Originally posted by KittynMeow:Usually little kittens are left alone because the mother cat has probably gone off looking for food for herself. If the kitten is not in any distress, the best option is to walk away... as any trace of human scent around the kitten would tell the mother cat that a human has been around and possibly touching the kitten. It is probable that the mother cat would then refuse to nurse the kitten out of fear or dislike for humans....
rather than think of what to do, think of what NOT to do:
- DON'T feed the kitten with milk meant for human consumption. If the kitten is really in distress and hungry, feed it with kitten milk formula (available from pet shops) using a dripper or a kitten milk bottle.
- DON'T play with it. If the kitten is not in any sign of distress, there is no need to touch it. The mother cat is probably out to hunt and will be back after you are gone.
- DON'T keep hanging around the area where the kitten is located. The mother cat would feel intimidated about coming back to the kitten and may end up indirectly causing the kitten to be abandoned.
If you are concerned about the kitten or unsure whether the mother cat will come back, just keep a lookout for the mother cat from a distance.
Taking care of a baby kitten is serious business... requires constant feeding (almost once every 2 hours) etc. Pretty much like taking care of a human baby. If you can't commit that kind of time or attention, just observe and look out for the mother cat to come back.
ya, but in Taiwan there are dogs, and no cats at all!Originally posted by MooKu:What do you do when you see a stray kitten?
I see them quite frequently (I guess, compared to everyone in SG) and I'm always in this big huge gigantic humongous mammoth dilemma whether to carry it home or leave it there.
Do mother cats always look after their offspring well?
When, or what makes them leave their kittens by themselves?
Will other cats help to look after the kitten? Or do they only care about themselves?
Today I saw another kitten - I thought it was pretty agile compared to others I'd seen before, albeit having legs a little weak still.
I wanted to bring it home so much because I was worried it might get abused or get hungry because it's unable to fight with stronger cats for food.
But I couldn't do it because I don't know how to look after small kittens. I'm worried that if I do it wrongly they'd die and I'll really cry. And I thought it would have a better chance for survival since that area has lots of stray cats with somebody feeding them. Furthermore, I thought the mother might come back for it.
So, I tried to convince myself it is strong enough to grow up on its own and I left it there.
erm, something tells me I don't want to know why.Originally posted by FBI:ya, but in Taiwan there are dogs, and no cats at all!
