Something interesting, for those not in the know.....
Chantek is an archaic spelling for cantik. I believe it arises from the 1800s when the British and their stiff upper lips couldn't pronounce certain Malay words properly....
In fact many Malay place names in Singapore still follow archaic Malay instead of proper modern Malay. For example:
Tanjong Katong (archaic) ==> Tanjung Katung (modern)
Ayer Rajah ==> Air Raja
Bukit Chandu ==> Bukit Candu
Kreta Ayer ==> Kereta Air
And so on and so forth......
