evening
no more F-5 on RSAF open house
F-5s on the way out ? ...
not surprising actually ....
and there's a trolling thread up in eternal hope again ..... and people are happily feeding the troll ...
F-5 started defending Singapore since 1979
heard they were cheap to operate, so they were kept on for interception missions ....
it's a compact, sexy plane though ...

yeap and reliable too.
Sometimes gets tulan seeing those malingering threads appearing at a frequent rate.
It's pretty disturbing
just got home
The F-20 was actually more advanced than the F-16....that says a lot about the F-5/T-38's design.
And the F-18 traces its design to the F-5 as well.
but sadly F-20 was not further developed
I'm curious about how the JSF would turn out ..... it sounds like a big lemon ...
oh, and the bin laden raid helicopter that the seals blew up in pakistan .... it's been returned ....
surprise surprise .... I thought it'd have ended up in shenyang after all ...
The JSF has a freaking big engine.
Max thrust is in the 40k Ib range....thats even more powerful than the Foxhound's huge ass engine. And makes the JSF nearly as powerful as the early twin-engine F-15s.
Correction: I just looked up the updated news....they just announced the engine can produce max thrust in excess of 50k Ib..... The single engine JSF is 5x as powerful as our twin engine F-5s.
That makes it about as powerful as the engine of the TU-160 and TU-22M3...

true ... but look at the thrust/weight ratio, max speed etc ... that's almost like the F-5's ...
I have a suspicion it'll turn out to be the biggest lemon in aviation's history .....
and now china's got her own carriers and stealth fighters .... spratleys would probably hot up one time or another within the next 3 decades .... the chinese won't play nice ...
and economic and military basket cases like the phillippines would just have to suck it up and watch the chinese turn the south china sea into their lake ...
Actually I'm not sure if USA is going in the right direction....the F-22/35 are huge-ass planes packed with all the best equipment that is overkill.
Its just gonna make the planes friggin expensive and unsexy.
And for all the talk about Chinese stealth planes....I'm not sure if they can supercruise at the top speed of the F-5 like the F-22 can.
No wait....the F-22 can hit M1.7 without even lighting afterburners and that's even faster than the F-5's top speed WITH afterburners.
That's just engine technology....imagine what other things the F-22 has....and that's all 1990s technology.

I think they are making exactly the same mistakes they made during the vietnam war era, when they thought the merge and close in dogfighting to be obsolete, and that missiles and electronics would determine everything ......
so while the russians focused on super maneuverability, thrust vectoring etc, the west still try to squeeze life out of 70s era platforms by banking on electronics upgrades ...
I think it's telling too ... that while the west focused on radar technologies like AESA, the russians went with physical truths and developed IRSTs that could search, track and shoot, all without emitting a single tell tale beam of radar energy ....
If only F-20 had went on
actually ... the sexiest plane in my books is the F-14 tomcat .....I miss the airfix models I had ...
just look at the lines ......
go watch speed and angels .... it's loaded up on youtube ..... that's wanking material in plane porn terms ...

Some things the Yankees believed in never ever went wrong, and that's huge ass engines that permit unparalleled acceleration.
But oh man....I love the looks of the Flanker....its got the killer looks.
Its likely the F-22 is actually more maneuverable than any planes of this era by virtue of its engines and thrust-vectoring with low wing-loading....
But I'm not sure if the F119 engine can allow the F-22 to do the fabulous 360deg flip the Flankers can do.....normal engines would just flame-out from the air starvation but not the awesome Russian Saturn engine.
I like the F-111 looks better....it represents best the craze of the variable sweep wing with its min 16 deg and crazy max 72 deg sweep that no other planes dared to copy.
The F-14 design was based on the F-111 and refined it.
And the MiG-31 exhaust must be the biggest mounted on any fighter. Its my only model that can stand on its tail-pipes....freaking awesome
I remember reading that all those fancy airshow moves like the cobra slows the airplane down too much to be of any use in air combat, especially in the era of true look down/shoot down radars ....
Its a good way to demo the crazy Ruski engine....as stated, normal engine would flame out if the airflow is disrupted....but not the Ruski engine...
But actually its not true that the Yanks did not look at maneuverability....the Super Hornet can also do the Cobra....and that's without all the thrust-vectoring gizmos.
My fav plane is the F-14
JAS-39 my another fav
but of course ... it helps to have friends on your side .....
like country x .....
from which we got this ....
elbit DASH III helmet on our vipers at exercise western arc in frogland .....
sighted during pitch black and red flag as well .... wonder if we'd be getting the python V too though ... makes sense ... since we are already buying the spyder to replace the rapiers ...
Up north has got cladestine dealings with the said country....we should check out their SU-30MKM.....Ruski plane with American stuffings and unconfirmed Country X equipments....
next thing engine buang
