This was just heard on CNN's Anderson Cooper! WHAT?!
#1- Brazil
#2 - Singapore
#3 - Jamaica
HOW did we get in #2? The commentator said it's because Singapore has one of the highest computer literacy in the world.
But... #2 Coolest Country?!

No idea... that's why when Anderson Cooper kinda scoffed, the commentator said something about Singapore's high computer literacy.
I can't seem to find the link to that on the cnn.com site. I wasn't paying attention to the segment until I heard 'Singapore' so I missed out on who compiled the list.

I am totally stumped. I guess whoever compiled the list isn't interested in how happy the citizens of the countries are in general.
The commentator said that Jamaica might have made it to the cool list because dreadlocks are kewl.

Precisely! Even Anderson Cooper was stumped. He isn't one for theatrics, but you could tell he was a bit astounded.
I'm just wondering if they mean 'cool' as in 'bo chup'? In that respect, we would be pretty spot on because whenever Singaporeans witness something happening in public, the tendency is to look away and bo chup and quickly remove oneself from the situation instead of speaking up and/or lending a hand.

Yeah... I understand this concept only after having lived outside Singapore for the past five years. There's too much control and planning, which is good, but it leaves no room for spontaneity, charm and beauty with character and depth.

brazil has one of the highest crime rates on the planet.. and a large percentage of their population live in slums which are periodically smashed by natural disasters like the recent floods...
yes the people party.. those are the rich... the poor are left to violent crimes and drugs to survive.. i don't think that's cool at all..
jamaica's about the same too...
i wonder what kind of drugs the people who came up with the list are on

i wouldn't read too much into this article ..... it reads like something some journalist ginned up on short notice to beat a filing deadline.
if anything, I think it's more important for us to be economically successful than to be "cool" .... that means more of us would have the means to go elsewhere to play enjoy ourserlves and be "cool" without having to live long term in any particular shithole ..... "cool" doesn't come into the equation when one is cold and starving. I think being "hot" or "cool" comes only with much disposable income.
reminds me of this phillippines slum feature by this poly kid on last week's sunday times ..... where he wrote that lots of slum dwellers would rather spend money on beer and the video-oke machine (sic), than on basic neccessities like food. "this is the phillipino way," said one of the slum dwellers ....
