think i'm bit stressed and on the edge. couldn't zzz lasty night.
morning everyone~~~
new week to go...
I just got to my lab at St John's island.
One of my students emailed me at 11.50pm last night asking me for a consultation at 10am today.
I replied to him:
I need to be at an offshore lab today. I can see you on either Tuesday or Thursday instead.
Please take note:
1. Please don't shoot me a last minute email literally at the 11th hour the night before you want a consultation the following morning.
2. I have a proper name; please don't address me as 'tutor'. Not trying to sound arrogant, but you need to display a certain etiquette when addressing tutors and lecturers who teach you in this university.
Am I being a little too harsh on the fella?
oh wait...
suddenly I'm in a fantastic mood~~~~
Let's hope it keeps up for the whole of today~~!!!!

well, i have to say that unless it is an official title like "Director", people should address others by either their name, or Mr XX, Miss XX, Mdm XX or just Sir or Mdm... else it would be... kinda.. not right...
which is why "Dear Valued Customer" rings hollow to me... if i was such a valued customer, could you not even address me by my name? or if you want to spam through snail mail, at least "Dear Sir"... in fact, "Dear Sir/Madam" is also idiotic to me.. trying to cover all bases and missing them all..

No. 1 was justified, but No. 2 is really minor. You could've said, 'You may address me as *** in future, and I would prefer it that way.'
I was also confused as a freshman as to how to address my lecturers. They told me it's normal to address them by their first names in an art environment. But it's probably not the same in the science, maths and engineering departments.

Did you try the breathing techniques?

That's what I thought..... if it was an official rank or title such as 'Chairman', or 'Sergeant', I don't see a problem with that.
I actually don't mind my students calling me by name without a 'Mr' in front. Some of them call me 'Sir', and I find that weird, but at least it sounds respectful. But 'tutor' just doesn't sound right.
More to the point, I was amused at how the fella thinks that he can email me just before 12 midnight for a 10 am consultation the next morning. Basket.... he thinks I can just suka-suka clear my schedule at such short notice ah?

yup - a bit of meditation but my mind was buzzing onto work.
My lecturers would often tell us at the first session specifically how to address them -
I remember one specific one who specified 'You can call me Brian, or you can call Dr Snow. But Don't call me Mr Brian Snow or Mr Brian or Mr Snow'
well, most of the tutors I had were around my age too ..... so it was always first names for me.
but I guess some of the boys just ORD'ed .... so they go around sir-ing everyone ....
Well, I did tell them to just call me by my name in my first lesson.
I still find it weird that the fella called me 'tutor'. It's just like how you do not address a professor who's teaching you as 'lecturer'. You call him 'Prof Tan', for instance, or 'Sir', if you forget his name.
But I guess I should've gone a little easy on the kid.
But he still needs to be berated for trying to make a 10 am appointment at 12 midnight the previous night.
Dollars to donuts say that he's waiting outside my office now, wondering where the heck I am.

well, if he is waiting, then serves him right...
if he thinks you can be contactable by email at all times, then he's better be contactable by email at all times...
that being said, i can be contactable by my gmail at all times because of my Android phone which asked me for my gmail.. and actually buzzes me when i get an email through there

It's cool on the name parts...
I have germans worshipping me (that's wat my boss always say)
The last minute appointment is a lesson he really should learn.
Well, I've had worse.
Once another student made an appointment to see me. I actually wanted to head down to the island to do some minor experiments, but I figured that could wait for another day, considering that their exams were in two days' time.
So I waited in my office.... and waited.... and waited. The student never showed up.
She finally emailed me later that night. She said that she had been in school, but had a stomachache and decided to go home.
When I saw her again the next day, I berated her very badly.
At the very least, since she was already in school, she could have just ran to my office to tell me that she was going home, wrote a short email in a computer lab, or asked a friend to tell me that she wasn't seeing me. I wasted half a day because of that one student.

This one really should be pipiak left right centre
in some of photography outings, some come late and never had the courtesy to apologise ...
and some even ask why the group never wait for her when she turned up late.. ie 40mins after the appointed meeting time..!!
there is one turn up at the wrong place (wrong mrt exit) and waited. we pm her our ph number and she refused to give us hers. We waited for 30mins and left with the rest of the group. 1 hour late, when we receive a call, she was upset why we did not search for her.. HELLO, MRT many exit hor and our group is 30 pple, why would we all search one dumbo who kept her silence... siao..!!
talking about idiotic pple -.-"

that's why now if my friends organise group activities always include clauses like
1) we nice so we wait 15 minutes. But if you not there by 15 minutes, don't complain we not nice that we left without you.
