Being a tutor myself, I can say this much - tuition can make a difference, but only if the student has the right kind of mentality. If the kid is really dense and couldn't be bothered to learn, then even Stephen Hawking cannot do anything to help the kid.
I resigned from one tuition job precisely because the kid kept playing the fool while I was trying to teach him. His mom offered to cut my hours + raise my pay 1.5x to get me to stay.
I demanded 3x pay before I would even consider teaching that brat. She shut up, and I never heard from her again.
I wasn't the least regretful when I was "fired" from teaching one student sec sch physics. Imagine spending 1.5 hrs teaching moment = force x distance. If the blame was heaped onto me, I was only too happy to leave since its just a bloody waste of my time.
I have more fun teaching JC econs now. At least my understanding was that my presence was helpful for the student.
"Parents are focusing all their energies on academic achievement, thereby neglecting more important matters like character building and family bonding, which are so crucial in today's fast-paced world."
I see contradictions in this statement bearing in mind what point the parent was trying to bring across.

anyway i received some good news today (that's like 5% of all news) - my GF thinks it's a good idea to visit her in spring next year (her exams would be over). and i can bunk in with her!

i kinda like the rock n roll people.. like the Rolling Stones who in their prime went onstage in whatever the heck they were wearing at that time...
or guns n roses who didn't have a fixed set...
and check out this band called Cold Chisel... look for their stuff on youtube.. they're fricken amazing
maybe that's the difference.. he was more of a performer... while the rest were first and foremost, musicians

As for me, the brat was happy to simply draw cartoons while I was busy trying to explain Maths concepts to him.
And don't get me started on the book review assignments I made him do. He couldn't be bothered to read the books I made him read, and so he came up with fake plot summaries which totally didn't resemble the plot.
Did he think I was soooooo stupid to be fooled by him? I already knew the plots of all the books I made him read!
