I quote what stella posted:
According to the Ministry of Defence Director Manpower, Mr Tan Kok Yam, Full-time National Servicemen and Operationally Ready National Servicemen must have reached the milestones on or after 29 Aug this year to be eligible for the award.
Huh? 'On or after 29 Aug 2010'?
That means what? Only those who ORD on or after 29 August 2010 will get the first payout?

yupz. looks like they are giving the finger to those of us who have already ORDed and also those who don't have reservist.
I can understand about the studies part (but they need to make it earlier than 2010 for those that are still studying) as if you have already completed your studies, why do you still need the money to pay for your studies. But the reservist thing is nonsense.

well, if given a choice, and if the 9k weren't there, would you opt for, or opt out of, reservist ?

I'd be happy if they just pump 3k into my CPF (since I have long finished my studies) for having served NS. I'm ok with receiving less in exhange for no reservist

there you go ...
the thing is, the people who HAVE reservist, have no choice either .....
I think it's quite fair that the people who complete their cycles get more than those who just served 2 years and farked off, and that those who didn't serve at all, get nothing.
So, in short..... none of us here is gonna get the first payout, ah?
Basket.
My 5th ICT is this November. I don't mind getting some more money in my CPF from the second and third payouts.... but damnit, I see no reason why we shouldn't get the first payout....
Can't they just channel that first payout towards CPF, since we don't have post-secondary accounts to play with? Sheesh.

the PAP will never give us such a good deal. everytime they say they are giving us something, it is always with lots of fine print attached.
