Most of the countries and companies in Europe have already moved away from the old-style pension systems to user-funded retirement accounts - albeit without the minimum sum. Don't get me started on insurance premiums too.
I can only agree with you folks though, it seems as if ruin is inevitable. Fatum's thoughts pretty much sum up the middle-class thinking. And over the years we've been conditioned into this state of contentment and apathy... who would want to take on the challenge of running the country when the rat race and materialism are such attractive distractions?

Back to worldy distractions - I so want GT5, and a PS3 to play it on in November. F1 and a couple of new albums are keeping me hyped as well. KT Tunstall has some amazing new songs.
P.S. New GT5 trailer - it has world rally cars, NASCAR, GT, Top Gear and even F1

Oh, I got an unsolicited call by StanChart just now. And I don't have an account or anything like that with them. It went something like this:
Woman's voice: Hi sir, we're from Standard Chartered Bank....
Me: Do you know my name?
Woman: No sir, we don't, but....
Me: Since you don't know who I am, that means you got the wrong number. Bye.
*me hangs up*

my house nearby building another condo....nooooo... no breeze coming to my side liaoo..property agents calling us (and knows our name) and invite us to view and purchase their property..
told them.. i dun want an expensive property next to the noisy NYJC !!!
their staff damn brainless one lor... talking over the PA system and the annoncement is damn loud, echoo-ing a few blocks away...for at least 5 mins every morning..! if the new place is right next to the school, the residents have no peaceful morning at all!

anyway, some fuckers are making another run at an en-bloc at my place. this time, we'll sign the csa willingly because my old man has secured a new place. I'll be happy to move this time. -

then when i went to read up on it, its actually from a dating game for girls!!!!!!
