but i like the "medical halls" near my office..
i get stuff like hair gel for $7.50 which in supermarkets go for $10.90, neutrogena facial wash for $7.50 which go for $11.90 in Giant, shampoo for $23.50 when in most places go for nearly $30...
they sell other crap too.. like honey which goes for about $4 which same brand at supermarket goes for $6
don't know how they get these prices, even when they are parallel imports..
issue of margin. Dun forget, NTUC also has to ensure their housebrand has to be significantly cheaper. "Rice is rice, bread is bread" remember?
I even found 1 parallel imported item at NTUC (Johnson's big bottle baby lotion), end up lagi ex
chap huey tiam selling at $7.95 (the imported one or tor kor), NTUC selling at $9.15 (parallel imported)

oh oh.. talking about big businesses...
Pfizer or whatever the heck you spell it, the guys who make Viagra, just got hammered with a US$2.3billion settlement... for marketing drugs for illnesses which they were not made for, and not approved for by FDA...
now... if they were willing to settle for US$2.3billion, imagine the sheer amount of shit they did and how much they were trying to avoid!
and in the same breath by the BBC World Service newsreader, they mentioned the super fail by the SEC of the US in the Madoff case.. 5 separate investigations, 2 of which was carried out at the same time and the agents didn't have a clue... all the investigations were basically "they went to ask Madoff and accepted his bullshit answers".. then they wrote down the bullshit, said that all was in order and submitted the findings!

Soon very likely SS might overtake NTUC in turnover as well

and on defence procurement matters, many senior officers in the pentagon get under the table deals with vendors to secure second careers as consultants or whatnot. which is pretty much how soldiers can sometimes end up with some really substandard equipment. haiz.
one example is the current body armour pissup.
SS sells things cheap.. it's basically a cleaner and less messy "wet market" for all intents and purposes..
btw... the beer i bring to sentosa? it's from SS too

NTUC may try to neutralise the threat by buying them over in the future
it's happening in Singapore over deals as well
Recently the NDP over ferrying participants. They got SMRT to do the transportation, I dunno by how. Ended up, SMRT went to sub-contract 80% of the work to private bus operator.
Easy profit made n I wonder how e occifers source for vendors

Very unlikely
I've told pinky abt my thought over this matter as well. NTUC has served it's purpose, should let the private operating e retail supermarket

the body armour...
funny you should say that..
while the US army has outlawed the use of Dragonskin, Richard Mac on Futureweapons was showing off how good that was... it took rounds from all kinds of assault rifles going for it without penetration at all.. it even took a lot of the kinetic energy away so the soldier would not be winded and can run off and take cover...
then they put the damned thing over a grenade.. the blast wave would have killed the soldier but there was no penetration...
now.. why would the US army pay more for their substandard body armour when there is a vastly superior one out there?
it's clear for all except the "investigators"

the truly insidious thing is that orders came down from above that any US soldier killed in action wearing dragonskin or other unauthorised armour will not be eligible for death benefits.

This is very common in bolehland, ali baba deal
Either Bumi can't do e job give to Chinese to do or Chinese give kopi $$ ask the Bumi to bid for them
Didn't know such rotten practice are done for NDP by SAF. I think more to come
Tallking abt it, you know SMRT lost the Melbourne metro deal to MTR? Never reported on PAP Times

yeah.. i read that article..
some of the folks of the soldiers were still sending over dragonskin.. they said 'screw the benefits.. i want my son safe'

interestingly enough, some of the special forces units, which have more autonomy for unit purchases, use the standard body armour, but with specially ordered titanium plates to reinforce the original ceramic plates. of course, the regular grunt gets no such thing.
Reminds me now
I remembered last yr ppl mentioned abt the electronics system in US's defense system. It apparenly came from cheap junk PCB's from cardboard
Ppl are fearing of spying and safety as they failed stress and heat test

can you imagine the solder joints failing at a critical moment? and there could be some hidden chip inside that when activated by a remote signal, shuts down the whole pcb. or imitation capacitors just blow over time.
ok, I've been reading too many conspiracy thrillers
Anyway, Bolehland gave short notice
From 14 Sept, touch n go payment for toll at 2nd Link
