I was telling one of my friends the other day it’s funny that I have lots of things to talk to my ex’s mother and nothing much to talk to my MIL.
Actually I think the number of words said to my MIL throughout all these years can’t even fill up 1 page of a standard novel -_-“ And the conversation does not go beyond “How are you?” “Have you eaten?” “Hot weather isn’t it?” Don’t get me wrong. My MIL is a very nice lady but I just have nothing to say to her :x (plus I’m not even sure if she understands me)

actually i find it diff to talk to my mom about things too. figured it's an age gap thingy though i think you and your mom are great friends, right?

yeah i know. despite the age gap and parental authority, i know you have a great relationship with your mom whereas i'm totally the opposite. perhaps the thing with your MIL is that you didn't grow up with her like how you did with your mom.at the end of the day, so long as it's not a frosty relationship, don't bother too much.

My mum never really welded parental authority on us when we started to grow and can be reasoned with. I think for MIL is more lf a language barrier more than anything else. I tend to get along with my elders unless they are too nosey and try to exert too much authority. When they do that, all hell tends to break loose with me. I’m usually very nice and peace-loving but once you step on my tail too many times I can turn extremely nasty.
It's not frosty but I am glad that I'm not living with my in-laws or it will just be so awkward at home.

lesson 1 i learnt: never live with your in-laws coz you'll end up living in your room 24/7. my sis's quip is: i'm not staying with your mother even if she has a pool in the house.your MIL speaks tamil?

agree. I can go on trips with my MIL or errands and all.
