well you have spend 7 hours what is 3 more.....
i hope to watch 10 tomorrow.
soleachip,
is that that episode that had that guy dropped pebblesinto dead soldiers head for fun?
didnt see anything in that episode............maybe theres more in the further episodes....i cant believe thats all the fight that had in the pacific??!!!
guess it's peter principle. the producers of bob rose to a level of incompetence when they made the pacific. will give it a ten for telling a pretentious story about WWII.
it doesn't have to be great or fantastic, it just has to be a normal film or tv show about WWII. but even the mediocre flags of our fathers & letters from iwo jima beat this one hands down.
heard they were stretching the air time in ep 10 too. dunno how true.
will watch the rest online, can't give my viewership for the last 3 episodes even though they're sitting right there in the tv box.
the only good thing that came out of this was stumbling upon angels of america made in 2003.
i like hbo. i think they have made some unforgettable and original american tv shows out there but the pacific is rubbish. i hope they move out of this rut quickly.

no idea hitman.
i may know nuts about military science but won't be surprised if they made psyche wounds look stupid in the pacific.
btw eugene sledge's buddy snafu, the one who started the whole business of cracking japanese skulls... i think he's one actor to look out for. pretty intense in a slow burning manner, much like ben foster & ryan gosling.
i have no complaints about this series except the middle episodes.
things start to heat up near the end.
the truth is, the war is the pacific is less glam than the one in europe. so i'm not complaining.
if u guys are just looking for action, i suggest watching a movie instead of this series.

the pacific war was mainly naval warfare
u wanna see more troops dying and fighting, go to the european campaigns, go vietnam

i don't think it's necessary to show blood, gore and action to tell a good story, especially one about conflict. there was none of it in the hurt locker, schindler's list but still they were very well told. imo bob did not glamorous the war in europe either.

after episode 3, i decided to watch the show more like a documentary.
so i skipped any part which showed women.
i was more interested in seeing how they got stuck, how they got out and the objectives they had to overcome.
i personally don't like schindler's list or the hurt locker, just not my type.
i like shows like generation kill
pacific movie made me cry.........how can they make a war movie where the soldier wrote down the days gone like the calendars were more important than war movies....like there was no fighting at all.u mean to say in all that fighting in a small island thats choked fulla soldiers they still had time to talk about souvenirs....play with pebbles....take out their boots and air their feet even?????!!!!!!what is this a holiday camp in Hawaii??normally in vietnam war movies or otherworld war 1 & 2 movies,u usually dont get to see people take off their shoe, cut their toenails or do all those lil stuff!!did people pay to see soldiers in screen do that???!!!even if they did that no o ne wants to see that kinda stuff.the flags of iwo jima is placed in this category too!
people normally want to see blood and a real fight in a war movie!!if we wanna see naked people...we buy a porn movie.....if we need to watch people mostly talking all day we buy a dvd of the yung n restless.
could it be age thats driven the directors to lose their shine and creativity juice???never thought i would say this but steven spielberg has lost it!it was only in year 2002 that band of bros was shown,,,,,its now 8 years later,,,,,when people reach 60....their brains cant create anymore as it is shown here....indiana jones and the spaceman movie also reflected upon that syndrome.
perhaps more creative younger directors should be searched.
iwo jima is just one of the battles
u have the battle of peleilu documented in the series too
i already said that the biggest battles in the pacific are carried out at sea
they are just showing what the marines went through, its a war of attrition against the japanese
u want glam and creativity, i suggest you go watch sci fi movies.

All said and done.....go read the book....
Question.....
If you were to be in john basilone position would you extend your tour after serving 8 years and had just married. Send over to the War zone again and.... a high possibilities of being killed in Action?
Of course in this case his name is on the island.
I properly would have discharged and start my life in states side. but would not know what is it like to be in that situation.
i suppose albeit ordinary, some born poor n uneducated, not all were driven by the need for decoration n recognition.
according to the veterans interviewed in bob, some chose to be paratroopers for an extra $50 pay cheque. later, others like ronald spiers returned to combat in korea even though they had enough points to call it a day. john basilone is just one out of thousands. possibly millions.
for documentaries i watch history channels.

maybe the pacific was supposed to explain why he did what he did in his situation.
afterall, they were supposed to feature his account of the war.
showcase his experience and the psychological toll it took upon him.
or maybe not.
something has gone awfully wrong if we're still asking these questions about the characters long after all 10 episodes have been concluded.
just noticed all the screen writers from bob are missing in the pacific. but that's not enough to explain why the pacific has failed so badly.
out. done picking bones.

will keep a lookout for generation kill. sounds interesting.
btw if u're interested in knowing who's responsible for why soldiers got stuck, how they got out and the objectives they were ordered to finish, maybe u'll like generals at war. features important battles of WWII and why they moved the way they moved.
it's not always glamorous. Nuts!!!

generation kill is an old show, its about the recon marines during the invasion of iraq.
it shows incompetent leaders, ball carrying sergeant majors and a bunch of grunts.
but i always watch these shows while i check out what is their actual mission on the web.
i'm always on history channel
i never get enough of those programs
i watch these shows so that i get to "see" what happens instead of just documented films and arrows pointing on a map to explain where the attack is going.
i know its acting but at least its most interesting for me to link a documentary and the war scene

do you think sometime some of the program in history channel is getting a little bit "fictional"

well its because these bunch of "experts" come in to give their thoughts.
but then the war is over, the results are there to see.
i watch just to see how it went.
i saw epic 10...as expected its a closure......
As most of the viewers would have said
"it ended before it begins......"
just saw the episode where the okinawan woman blew herself up with baby in arms.
actually i didnt even see much japanese soldier around.....they ran around but less than a few seconds???most of pacific was talking and normal human as what should a good movie be but theres wayyyyyyy to much talk n no action!!!!
i have read a few non-fiction books on that war and the books seem to picture them with more action as the movie.the pACIFIC movie sucks big time!
AS THE PACIFIC was the only ww2 program so far......i just watch it cuz its up on a short list in ww2 moviesthis year .
you know there is always "Windtalker".......for actions....Nicolas Cage ...
thats what i mean...jap-us war movies aere a complete disaster until it makes windtalkers look like an actionmovie!
whatbout the jap subs on the islands that were straffed by planes???what bout different kinda jap units....weapons....when was the last time u saw a jap officerpointing his Nambu pistol at anyone???what about knee mortars from jap side??what about the real fight with an entire battalion marching unknowingly etc.,....maybe i should go make a real war movie myself unlike all these lame duck war movies.

loved band of brothers. the best mini series ever! "captain, we salute the rank, not the man!"
Imo , the pacific is nowhere near as good as BOB though , they seemed to be alternating between action and non-action between the episodes.
Unfortunately for HBO as well since the production cost is the most expensive mini series ever for HBO but the ratings had been nowhere near to those of BOB.
THE PACIFIC MOVIE REMINDS ME OF THE WALTONS SITCOM OR LIL HOUSE ON THE PRARIE.
THEY ARE SO GOADAM DULL AND SLOW UNTIL U WISHED A FLYING SAUCER WOULD HOVER DOWN ABOVE TO THEIR BARN AND TELEPORT DOWN 5 SKINNY GREY STORMTROOPERS TO KIDNAP ALL THE INHABITANTS THERE!!!
